>infecting your system with Windows

I'm inclined to agree with you, but Windows still serves a practical purpose today. My personal computer is running a Linux distro, but the computer in the living room that my partner and I watch Netflix and play Steam games on runs Windows* because more things are compatible with Windows without needing to run any sort of special shell or process on a Unix system.

*There is a small partition on the hard drive that can boot into a distro for the purposes of data recovery in the event that Windows drops its spaghetti because trying to manage files on a screwed up Windows installation is nigh impossible.

I guess it is ok if you want Microsoft to know every time when and where you take a shit. It doesn't seem right to have a 45 page informaton privacy policy and have to navigate through 11+ config panels so every person around you with 10 can't see your machine and possibly your porn folders.

This is kinda weird for me because I've never really "defended" a major corporation before and by all means it's not my favorite. But I have to ask, have you tried it yet? I'm not a fan of privacy policies but you make it sound like it's harder to turn off features than it is.

Also: unskippable advertising in solitaire, and microsoft gets to make more jew gold by selling the data they get about everything you do to advertisers. But they've already been doing that

You don't think people have found ways around this? I've been blocking advertising domains through the host file for years, great for Windows, Linux, and Mac in any OS level ad bullshit. The ads weren't there in 8.1 for me in Skype and the News app, and they still aren't there for the second I checked Solitaire (and will probably never launch again).

What company doesn't use your data for advertisers though? Who's to say Null, if the need be, would turn on ad revenue and use your browsing habits here for clicks? I don't like it, but how do you escape from it? You think OS X doesn't do this? Are you sure about your Linux distro, despite it's open source claims? Did you compile the kernal yourself? And that's just the operating system. What are you doing to do on the Internet that isn't tracking you? You think your proxy or VPN company are all about transparency? I don't get people who make this argument. Like I said I don't like it but your alternative is to just be completely offline if you are that paranoid. The NSA has had a backdoor to Windows since XP that we know of. Who's to say that they haven't been in talks with Canonical for these same back doors under the guise of homeland security? Paranoia paranoia tin foil etc. The point I'm trying to make is that it's just the times now. It's unfortunate but it's true.

Just a reminder of why I hate die hard Linux fans as much as I hate die hard Apple fans.

Yea despite having a strong preference for Unix systems I freely admit they are not perfect an have there own issues Slashdot take's it to a whole other level though.

Windows 10 is definitely better now lol but I would have preferred a stand alone Windows 9 since the odd numbered versions are better than the even numbered versions.
How the fuck did you even find a thread this old to necro?

I have two systems one I game on that I have windows on because it's just fucking easier I don't have to mess around with wine. I was using fedora for my laptop but I switched to mint because it's more like windows and that's what I'm used to.

I hate windows 10 It's really them just trying to fix the complete fuck up that was windows 8 and it shows. I hate that they're trying to baby proof everything, like how it's now harder to see my actual network or sound settings instead I have to navigate through the fisher price ones to get shit done. It's also bloated to shit, I don't need candy crush every install and it's ineffective with the hardware it's given.

On the Flip side, fuck linux holding onto the command line. I've used windows most of my life and I never once was forced to use cmd. With linux it forces you to do it, if you want to get anything done you have to look it up. Even when you get the basics of sudo apt get and so on down your still gonna be looking it up anyway, Do you know the line to get vlc installed off the top of your head?? Nope better google it. It's a total time waster. There are some programs and most distros will have an app store but they'll always come a point where I need something that isn't listed in the 100 odd programs they give you.

However I would like to move over to putting everything on linux just because windows is becoming less and less for computer people and more and more for boomers. I like that linux gives me control over my own hardware and I'm learning to value that a lot. I also like how great it is for web browsing making even older systems seem brand new on harddrives next to windows on ssd's. The main thing holding me back is the gaming drivers and it's over reliance on the command line.
