Windows 12 is looking pretty neat - Maybe this will herald the return of Windows Phone?

Seems the latest rumors of Windows 12 is that it's going to be properly modular, to the extent that it can be split into different partitions (and possibly different drives) for different core components. Seems this will allow legacy support to be separated from the OS allowing for a basic os that can compare to Chromebooks, and from what I've seen it should make a good phone OS too. I'm hoping Microsoft does the same thing to the Xbox OS so that you can buy or make third-party systems that have the Xbox interface and functions as an Xbox, or maybe you can add the Xbox components to Windows on your gaming system if it meets the requirements.

Seems Microsoft doesn't want to be caught with it's pants down, and wants to make an OS that can be used for AR systems like the HoloLens or implants without having to rebuild apps from scratch.

I'm aware some of you have strong opinions on the matter and somehow thing Chrome is still better then Edge, but i think it's neat.

Microsoft can't even get one operating system right. They can't even get small parts of one operating system right.

Microsoft doesn't even wear pants, they just stumble around naked and disheveled.

They've been talking up this modular thing for years, I have no idea how they'll make it work when windows is already buggy, wildly visually inconsistent, and in desperate need of a long pause in them fucking shit up so they can stop with their retarded, random-walk ship of theseus update plans.

They will fuck it up somehow, they always seem too. I'm not going back to windows now that I have learned and, am continuing to learn about Linux. Windows 7 was the last Microsoft OS that I was truly satisfied with, the ones after it seem to either get worse or they try to make it less crappier than the last one.

Next windows will be subscription based. it will need your credit card attached and have trans suicide hotline in start menu. Can't wait for a black woman to be a windows project manager at Microsoft kill winfags

All I have ever wanted was the MOST BASIC parts of windows to work… and somehow with each iteration the fuck it up more.
Oh you want to watch a folder to see if it updates? Good fucking luck win32 WHICH HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE NT somehow can’t always detect a file deletion, and if it does sometimes it thinks it’s a “creation” or modification event.

Just another shit operating system I have to support.

The moment they remove win32 support is the moment windows dies. It's the only thing keeping it alive currently.

Having 11 on my 2 in 1 Laptop, I will say it works better on touch devices than 10. That said, WAY too many menus. It works for me, I'm not using it for much other than office and internet browsing. I think they should fix 11, it works though RAM use is UNUSUALLY high.

I miss my Lumia Windows phone. The Continuum would have been revolutionary if they didn't gave up on it.
Having a unique OS would mean developing for ARM though, and while it's a thing, they're not still there yet in terms of performance and UX.

x86 software already runs on the current versions of Windows on ARM

It's funny to me to hear this as some new and exciting feature.

Back in like 2010-2011, something like that, my computer died refused to turn on. I figured out the problem was something to do with the harddrive. Then I learned you could partition a Linux install across as many drives as you want. So I gathered up as many flash drives as I had USB ports and installed Linux across all of them. I think it was xubuntu. I was honestly fucking amazed watching the computer boot up and run. These weren't big flash drives or anything. Like 1-2GB each and I only had 3 USB ports.

From there I was able to determine my hard drive wasn't actually fucked, windows had just somehow fucked up the master boot record on the drive and it wouldn't boot from it until it was reformatted.

I just said fuck it, rescued all the shit I wanted, wiped out windows and never went back.

I had a Nokia windows phone, it felt so fucking gimped, getting even a case for it was hard, and youtube, as a high-school as my main means of entertainment, was absolutely inferior compared to Android. A unique OS is a intriguing prospect for a phone, but when NO ONE is running it, and Microsoft sells it to normies... it fucking dies. GraphineOS knows its market, Linux nerds, and it doesn't pretend it's anything else.

Lmao sure thing buddy and they will also let you fully uninstall Edge and start selling the Office suit for Linux LTS distros like Ubuntu.
Gotta grab your iso from some Russkie. I haven't been pestered about installing Edge in two years now.
