Windows 12 is looking pretty neat - Maybe this will herald the return of Windows Phone?

Microsoft can't even get one operating system right. They can't even get small parts of one operating system right.
What is Windows 2000, XP, or 7? Pick your choice. Those are the ones people love.

XP is beloved because it was the dominant OS for most of this site's first experience with computers. In reality it's a shambolic mess of an operating system that wasn't good until Microsoft had 6 years of post-release development invested in it. There's a reason Microsoft ripped out half of the codebase when making Vista.
2000's just a less shitty, more stable version of Windows 98, in the same way 7 is the less shitty, more stable version of Vista.

Microsoft has never delivered a decent OS out of the gate since the heyday of MS-DOS.

Everything since Windows 7 is for niggers.

Microsoft never even delivered MS-DOS well, though the closest they got was MS-DOS 5. Every other version was a dot version.

Windows 2000 was Windows NT which was their attempt to build a "real" operating system (akin to OS/2) with actual protection and shit. An early version of Windows NT was the most stable OS microsoft will ever release, but because the video drivers were NOT in the kernel it was slow as molasses and they quickly moved the drivers into the kernel and it would explode to death from then on.

Windows 2000 was kinda pimp for awhile because you could use Windows XP drivers with it on almost anything and it didn't have that shitty fisher-price UI (which everyone universally reviled at the time, let me tell you). It was also a real OS with protection and shit, whereas 95/98/ME, though they looked similar to W2k, were just Windows 3.11 with some additional shit tacked on.

Windows 7 is probably the "most loved" release of Windows if you consider reception at the time it came out. The dirty secret is Windows 7 is almost entirely just Vista with a bit of UI cleanup; but by the time it came out everything had drivers finally.

If the tick/tock theory is correct, Windows 12 will be at least accepted, if not loved.

My theory is that windows upgrade nukes all the 2gb of mods you put in it so you like how it works, so if you're forced to upgrade to something that has not got ANY of that and not even support for that.
No wonder people are shits about it. I finally upgraded to windows 10, last year actually. Though the only reason that is still useful is that my CPU is some i5 quadcore from ages ago and apparently even windows update says "yeah, bro just stick to what you have. I'll never bring this upgrade up again."
Thanks windows update, I will.
