I'm willing to bet actual money that there's no gun. IF that is a glock case (they're extremely generic looking... just like the guns) then there's something non-gun in it or it's empty.

-In that tunnel vision mode, he either DOESN'T even notice her and hits her on accident
-OR he is in too deep with tunnel vision, and views her like an obstacle to push away
