I think a similar thing can be said of the woke side as well. They refuse to be honest that they're mad at the ideological bent of the anti-woke side and try to make it about the anti-woke side just being stupid and objectively bad at criticism. The whole debate is stupid because the loudest voices on both sides don't want to be forthright about the hard lines drawn in the sand between them, instead trying to scream "Um actually, I'm the true moderate centrist and other guy is an extremist!" at one another.

It's disheartening how many have become extremists, forgetting that gaming isn't always about exploiting or endangering children. They've lost perspective, even mirroring the problematic behavior they once opposed during the Anti-GamerGate era. For example, SmashJT continues making videos about a former Kotaku employee, acknowledging the lawsuit's potential to ruin him, yet prioritizing content about her alleged endangerment of children. His videos are no longer funny, but tragic, as he seems driven by misguided motivations. One can only feel sympathy for his children, unaware of their father's impending financial ruin. This will be SmashJT's legacy.

Anyone lying or being a sneaky little jew saying half-truths to sell a narrative, a product or to simply enrich their channel or career is a grfiter. It can be a political grifter, a video game grifter, it can be a retard that jumps from sphere to sphere to keep their gravy train going like Mutahar. I think it's pretty self explanatory, everyone I heard being accused of grifting ended up being one or always was in some way. It is extremely easy to find marks and take them for all they are worth, internet made that infinitely easier and many people are making a career out of this, so it's not ridiculous to accuse someone of being a grifter.

Clear grifters, they keep pushing narratives to suit their image(ie "right wingers" when they are right leaning centrists at best, likely plain old left wingers pretending to be right wingers). They don't hold any serious opinions and straight up admit they make shit up and only say whatever they do in their videos to get the most amount of subscribers(good example, JT during the KCD2 fiasco admitted he only covered the game the way he did for optimum engagement, hid that statement behind a paywalled members video). They usually try to push the narrative from going too far right wing since they're not comfortable going there personally(again, with KCD2, all the people who claimed gay underage sex and historical revisionism wasn't "woke"). Pretty much all of them run some sort of sponsorships, anyone that does can safely be considered a grifter, especially if they try to make people think they don't make videos for a living. There is absolutely left wing grifters too, who similarly play the other side of the culture war coin, this is not a right wing exclusive phenomenon.

Most obvious example of a grifter, he straight up started shilling every single game(including shit like Starfield) because he got paid to. The first very obvious example was Blood: Fresh Supply, a port that was a disaster at the time and was universally hated due to many issues. GMan recommended it, and hasn't stopped licking the corporate boot since. Most disgusting example of this was when DNF2001 leaked, everybody was covering it except for GMan since he didn't want to cut ties with his corporate sponsors over it. Civvie made a video on it, let me know if any company or individual tied to gaming unpersoned him because of it. Wasn't even good in his heyday, but at least he was more honest and allowed to criticize the games he covered.

This one is hard to pinpoint, I have no doubt in my mind he is a shill but he is more honest than most. He is also retarded, which means he often says things you aren't supposed to when running a grift or trying to sell something, but it does make him sound more genuine. Nevertheless, it did earn him a spot in the current zeitgeist, so if he is a grifter, he's not as outrageous with what he does as others.

He might not seem like it, but at the end of the day, he did admit he is doing this mostly for money. He is a lazy grifter, however, so not necessarily a good one. He doesn't follow the algorithm or makes decisions that could earn him the most amount of money(for example, skipping out on covering Avowed and Monster Hunter to focus on his 4 hour KCD2 video 2 months after everybody forgot about the game). He stopped making videos almost entirely because it's easier to grift off his viewers every other night with a 7 hour stream than to put effort into anything, even something like editing together a video(what most of his fanbase wants from him). There is plenty of low-effort under the radar grifters like him on both sides of the aisle, Synthetic Man only gets attention because he has spicy takes.
Also, as to him being "honest" and not a lolcow, I would look in the Grift Wars subforum if I were you. He recently got his own thread, and for a good reason.

To be fair, it has never been easier to scam people and shill shit to them than ever before, so the term is appropriate most of the time. Problem is the companies hiring these goons and people eating up these obvious outrage farms/paid off review mill/political mouthpiece channels and accounts, to the point they've been normalized.
