Woke professor seriously claims time is sideways not forward

She claimed that the world map as we see it is racist because Europe is on top while Africa and South America are in the bottom, and that in Oceania they view the world as upside down because our concepts of north and south are arbitrary.
That reminds me of scene from an episode of The West Wing.

I mean in the case of Greenwich Mean Time, that was very much invented and formalised by some chaps over in Greenwich, London. Fair play to them, if I'd come up with the formalised system for time of day around the world, I'd have centered it around where I lived too. :story:

This thread makes me so grateful I graduated back in the 90s. I don't know how people are expected to react to any of this shit with a straight face.

I think you can argue north/south is a pretty meaningful, objective thing. Compasses point in one direction. If you're navigating you're probably going to want to have your map laid out before you as to match the direction in which the compass is pointing. The word you assign to that direction is as arbitrary as anything, but that concept is north.

Especially when they're paying out the ass for it.

The directions of North and South are literally as objective you can get, one points up towards the North Pole (located near the top of the Earth) and the other points further to the South Pole. The world isnt fucking upside down. Cultures can still believe in stupid shit. Your teacher sounds very mentally ill. I know people joke that SJW’s and mental illness are practically comorbid but I mean it. She’s sick in the head.

ITT people confusing the thing with the name of the thing.

Poles (and to a lesser degree polacks) are fickle.

The tangents in this video are a nice introduction:

I had a literature professor whose favorite author was still alive and barely wrote above chick lit level. DROPPED.
