What the hell does he mean by "gratuitous" plugs? It's what he says when it's time for his "I'm so poor, here's my financial history, here's how you can pay me" bit. It's never sounded right to me but a quick search for the definition brings up:

2Given or done free of charge.

‘solicitors provide a form of gratuitous legal advice’

So is people giving him money done without good reason/uncalled for (yes) or are they just giving him free money (also yes)? Is this really what he's aiming for when he says it, or am I just too sleep deprived right now?

He says it to sound like he really doesn't want to do plugs. Especially recently, he has an actual mini-segment pre-plugs that is all about him not wanting to have to do plugs, but he has no money. He has no problem doing a 2 hour pre-stream to stall for time though.

"behind my back" - any person that doesn't talk to DSP directly but instead issues a public statement. Usually this occurs after they did talk to DSP face-to-face and got nowhere.

We saw it during the DJ Runo saga and I was reminded of it during Tevin's rewind stream last night of the Rambo and Howard saga. The Runo troll posted information to DSP's forums and to Twitch, and DSP said that Runo was going "behind his back." Rambo and Howard released a public video on Youtube about their version of events and DSP claimed it was them talking shit "behind his back."

The phrase he should be using for what he means is 'Shameless Plugs' as it would correctly describe his unabashed e-whoring, but that would mean acknowledging that his pathetic non-stop begging should have some shame associated with it. So instead Phil incorrectly says 'Gratuitous Plugs'. A 'Gratuitous Plug' would be like if you were on a book-tour for your new book and you kept telling everyone to check out a band you like.

Yeah, that's the classic Narc definition of the phrase where 'behind my back' means you didn't come to me privately for a one-on-one encounter so that I can manipulate you and control the narrative, or at least try and manipulate you into saying nothing publicly.

I honestly believe he thoroughly enjoys doing his plugs segment. It's like he gets off on trying to make himself out to be a victim. There's no other explanation for it, because he doesn't need to do it every day. Once a week would be more than enough. Does he seriously think he gets a new audience each stream? He gets the same viewers, day after day, they don't need a thorough explanation on his life history and step-by-step instructions on how to give him money. Jesus Christ. It's mind-boggling.

At this point, it's becoming the same shit as belching, snorting, finger sniffing, throat clearing, and bottle crunching. He knows people don't like it, but he does it anyway. It's very passive-aggressive behavior.

A very childish invididual. Here, let me do something I know you do not enjoy hearing but I'm going to do it anyway because of all the giggles and satisfaction that happens from making you uncomfortable. Also I will get paid doing it. Wait, why are my views so low?

DSP thinks the exact opposite; he thinks that he has a completely different audience minus a few big whales depending on the game he plays. That's why he's a "variety streamer" and that's why he plays 5 different games during marathons: he's legit afraid that people will skip the marathon if he doesn't play a game they like.

I think this needs an addendum as he recently has been saying 'my wife and family', such as the phrase "When I was younger I never thought one day I would have a wife and a family." Video timestamped at quote 6m07s

So an alternate definition he uses is:
Family - my wife's cat

Also, what a sad sack of shit. He 'never' thought that one day he would ever have a wife or a 'my wife's cat'? It's non-sequiters like this that illustrate on some deep down level he has always been aware of what a grotesque, socially leprous loser he is.
