The soundtrack for Grandia 1, especially towards the end parts of the game are magical. It really sells how grand the adventure is. Good choice playing the Saturn version too.

edit so I don't doublepost: The Dom Ruins Vestibules' song is pure ear sex, holy shit

GungHo buying GameArts was one of the worst acquisitions ever, used them to shit out a generic korean MMO then used the MMO's failure to relegate them to indie game tier releases
Really wish SEGA had picked them up like they did with Atlus, especially to make up for SEGA's previous poor treatment of them at the hands of Bernie Stolar

The shitty Grandia remasters and the fact they went to LRG for physical releases put them on my shitlist forever. The Lunar remasters look promising but I'm not holding my breath.

Make Luc Village Great Again. I know who I'm voting for next election for Chief.

Played through Lunar 1 and enjoyed it, Got through a big chunk of 2 but i never finished it... Gotta get back on it sometime

Odds on the remakes removing the bromides?

You know this shit ain't flying today
It'll fly, just give them girldicks.

How different is the fan translation?

I got to shortly after some goddess reveals something to the main character in Grandia. I don't know why it didn't click for me, but I liked what I played.

considering the wokification of Atlus, that arguably would've been even worse
I wonder if that was just how Atlus would've turned out anyway or if it was due to Sega. They randomly decided to make a character black in Persona's localization way before Wokeism took over, and Persona 4 was a little faggy...

Oh, I had no idea those were even different. That's interesting.
the Saturn version is actually the original, having released a year and a half before the PS1 version:

the graphics are a lot smoother on the Saturn version, understandably since the Saturn was built with 2D in mind.

Interesting, yes. Long, no.

I am playing the Japanese version, so the Italian accent which I guess they applied since his name is Guido, doesn't come through, but it's still amusing, nevertheless.

Nooooooo fuck. Poor Sue. In her defense though bringing an 8 year old on your legendary adventure is ill-advised.

I'm not gonna lie I thought I was going to be fine with her leaving until the theme played. Also I made the mistake of having her be our only healer.

Also that beach scene is absolutely gorgeous, its one of the prettiest scenes the Sega Saturn could ever make. The song that plays is probably my favorite off the OST minus the main theme.

Not-so-fun fact: came to the Tower of Temptation with Milda instead of Liete and promptly got my balls rocked by the end-of-dungeon bosses. Came back with Liete; bosses didn't give me nearly as much trouble.

Some part of me wishes more bosses throughout the main games were as difficult as those Tower of Temptation bosses. The Grandia battle system is really great, the issue between Grandia 1 and 2 is that they're extremely easy and don't really use the battle system to the best of its ability.

GungHo is also the publisher with the distinction of being so incompetent that they fucked up paperwork for a digital release, resulting in one of their games not being available on release date in Canada because they somehow only listed it for the US on the North American PlayStation Store, and it took them WEEKS to figure it out and get it fixed.

It was the skeleton puzzle game for Vita, Dokuro, and to make it even worse, it released at a discount, and Canadians couldn't get it until the discount expired.

With that, Grandia is done and dusted. A solid 8/10. A well-trodden story with top-notch execution. Sometimes, that's all you need.
