France-Belgium just started. No idea how it'll go, France starting off strong, but just as I was writing this, Belgium had a fast counter (and two). Hoping for a Belgium win, tho if England wins in the other group, it'd be more fun to see a France-England finale.

edit: first half done, both teams have been very solid. France has been more dangerous on counters and getting out of tight spots, but Courtois has made great saves and the Belgians are sharp.

0-0 at half time. Belgium looking better to begin with, France looking better towards the end of the half.

France in the final. I was expecting Belgium to win myself, but there we are.

The question is this - assuming they get past Croatia, which I think they will, how the shuddering fuck are ENGERLUND supposed to beat that?!

As they always do.

By getting fucking lucky.

Possibly. I particularly enjoyed how today the commentators were busy masturbating themselves over Kylian Mbappé for being such a mature young man then he I. dribbles the ball away from an obvious Belgian throw to waste time, is carded for it, and II. dives horribly.

I'm hoping for something like this. It's 0-0 in the 70th minute and Mbappé goes down in the box when fouled by Harry Maguire or John Stones. He rolls over and over then, in a fit of pique, lashes out at the defender and slaps him and starts reeeeeeeing in his face. As a result, he is red-carded and forfeits the penalty that he would have had if he had not acted like a twunt. ENGERLUND, now France are down to ten men, win in injury time. The salt that such an occurrence would engender would prove beyond all doubt that this is the best timeline.

Don't know whether to rate this "DRINK" or "optimistic."

Drinktimistic?

Optimistic from the drink.

Also, Harry Kane getting a knighthood is the only sportsman getting a knighthood for sportsing I'll accept (other than Bradley Wiggins because he's cool) because the REEEEEing from David Beckham will be legendary.

Can't help but feel that we did well in the so-called "Golden Generation" in spite of people like Beckham, who fucked up in 1998 by kicking that Argie, and Wayne "I :feels: GILFS" Rooney. But yeah. Beckham will be saltier than that lake in Ethiopia.

I think they'll be forgotten between the 'Italia' team of the early 90's (Think Gazza, Lineker et al) and this lot. Beckham will endure of course, but still no knighthood for him.

Yes - hamstring was it?

NGL - lost a good bit on Belgium today. England had better make it up. Croatia/Russia was one of the best matches of recent history though.
