Is Salah really that good? Outside of Liverpool getting to the UEFA final I haven't heard much about him.
@LetterlandMafia gave a good answer to that, I'd also add while Salah has certainly made Egypt's chances greater, the group they're in should also keep them from shitting the bed too much. Russia showed some improvement today, sure, but the last time they were a truly great team was when the Soviet Union was still a thing and even then they never won anything. That's why I find Egypt has a greater chance of getting out of their group with Salah's help, though the moment they meet one of the bigger teams (let's say Brazil or Germany or Belgium), it's over for them, Salah or not. It's kinda similar to the situation Argentina is in, Messi is carrying the entire team and their road to getting to the WC almost didn't happen.
I actually think one of Portugal or Spain will fail to advance. Their groupmates are poor, but Spain have been shaky lately and have sacked their manager, and Ronaldo can't keep carrying Portugal forever (yes I know they won Euro 2016 but Ronaldo dragged them to the final and the victory over France was a huge shock). There's always shocks at the WC
Could happen, sure. Neither team made it past the groups in Brazil. I'm just not sure if Iran or Morocco are really strong enough to challenge even a messy Spain and a Portugal, that imo, actually does fairly poorly with Ronaldo.

Russia 5 - 0 Saudi Arabia

Thanks for coming, Kebab. Now piss off.
I'm not counting on Russia to win much else beyond this, knowing what F-Students RSA are at the craft.

Let's just hope the next 3 games tomorrow are more interesting - Spoiler: they will be.

Regarding Russia vs. Saudi Arabia, I didn't have the time to watch the match and have no idea if Russia was that good or Saudi Arabia was that bad. I suppose the Russians used Belarusian premier football tactic "Trick the other side into using their backup squad". Either that, or doping.

Said tactic usually leads to being hilariously steamrolled later, so we'll likely have lots of :story: moments later on.

Funny thing is a few World Cups ago, the Saudi team bragged that they didn't care if they won, but that they'd score against Germany and prove how good they are.

They lost 8-0 ...and their next match was like 5-0

Egypt vs. Uruguay on the telly in the pub where I'm having lunch. No score yet. I'm hoping for Suarez to lunch up on an opposing player or hilariously cheat and then reeeee and blame the hostile foreign media.

Uruguay 1 - 0 Egypt

Just one more KEBAB in trouble and I'm not surprised. I only saw highlights of this, but Uruguay had the most control and we're clearly the most threatening here. I'm just sad they didn't score more to remind some fuckers who they are in the craft. Either way, here's hoping they win the next one, too, IMHO.

Also, to the Kiwis who said Salah was the one to carry the team to victory... Nope. Benched the whole game - and it's pretty motherfucking clear Egypt needs Salah to carry theme any level of forward. This definitely ain't Liverpool we're dealing with here. Just a bunch of fools afraid of the ball who clearly don't belong here, if you ask me.

I guess he truly isn't as healthy as the Egyptian FA was advertising. Suprised they kept him on the bench the entire time. While Uruguay was better, they had many moments of spaghetti and Egypt needed someone to use that to their advantage.

Anyone watch Morocco-Iran? Was it a snorefest with a tap-in for the latter or did they actually look good? (actually a quick edit, but I saw it was an own goal kek).

Morocco-Iran was a battle of attrition, but Iran manage to get three points with a lucky own goal.

Ronaldo scores, SIIIIIIIUUUUUUuuuuu! Portugal 1- 0 Spain.

Spain pull one back thanks Diego Costa. Portugal 1- 1 Spain.

Half time. I guess Ronaldo is actually putting in an effort this year, 2 goals already. Spain still seems to have had more chances and I see them continuing that trend in the second half. Still a very open ended game.

Diego Costa and Nacho have scored 2 goals in several minutes.
Portugal 2 - 3 Spain, everything is quite exciting at the moment.

lmao Iran is at the top of Group B right now.
