I'm hoping Serbia can pull off some magic against Brazil tonight just to see Brazilians crying over not getting further tbh
While I agree that crying Brazilian soccer players and fans is its own porn genre, I fear that for Serbia the upcoming match is going to be something like watching an ISIS beheading video.

Edit:
Do Uruguay and Croatia have a legit chance? I'll bandwagon them.
When Serbia fucks up I'll be rooting for Croatia as well.

Honestly don't know who to support now. I hate England, Spain would be a good choice if not for >De Gay, Ronaldo is too much of a faggot for my tastes (I'd like Portugal otherwise) and pride doesn't allow me to support Brazil.

You should go Mexico or Sweden, maybe even Belgium. All are good teams that deserve to win. Brazil have been sub par and Argentina have been pretty shit.

Mexico 0 - 3 Sweden
Well, this was a great match for Sweden and a nice pleasing comedy of errors for Mexico, despite BOTH teams advancing as Winner & Runner-Up (SWE, MEX), respectively. At this point, however - Where I can see SWE going past Knockouts with a little luck, MEX is pretty much done, despite their advance (which really does come off as pure luck, due to Germany (GER) not being able to beat Korea (KOR) of all teams - speaking of which...).

Germany 0 - 2 Korea
Looking at this game proper, you'd think GER could easily destroy their last opponents here, advance easily despite an upset to Mexico, and call it a day. So fucking much for that! Damn shame, too - properly watching this particular game, they were just dominating until the end.

It was clear KOR wasn't going to make it far in this (as if they ever do), but thanks for making the end of this game entertaining by besting GER like you did in those last couple minutes, while holding on for dear life, m8s - I cheered my ass off at this result, so good on you for giving me that much. Farewell and thank you for going down fighting. As for you GER... We know you'll be back next time and kicking ass - I mean, save for now, when have you NOT made it to (and through) this tourney???
You forgot to point out that Germany lost despite the game getting 3 extra minutes added to the 6 minutes they already added at the end.

I know they can add as many as they want, but this was definitely meant to give Germany a fighting chance, even though it wouldn't have happened if they were the ones who had the two wasted minutes to prove they weren't offside.

Well I expected the first half to end a bit worse but I was a bit positively surprised. Good match so far from both teams, though the Serbs have the same pattern of starting out strong, making one mistake and then having a complete meltdown. I'm not optimistic for the second half but who knows...
That would be like rooting for Argentina after Brazil fucks up.
Think of it like if the United States fucks up you root for the only other Anglo nation left, even if it's - God forgive me for saying this word - Canadians.

As much as Canada is an utter shithole it's not like we've had a centuries long blood feud with them. It would probably be closer to rooting for Palestine after the Israelis get knocked out. @Ratko_Falco I assume you won't be supporting the Ustasha?

EDIT: Excellent game for the Serbs and Brazilians. IMO best play in the tournament from both teams so far.

Not as much of a curb stomping as I predicted but still the same as the first half. It legitimately frustrated me when they squandered these two amazing chances to score, especially when they heavily outnumbered the Brazilians. Leave it to Serb football to fuck up on such a monumental scale.

They at least now how to play football a bit. Normally I'd alternatively support the Russians but they don't have an impressive track record and the Greeks didn't qualify.

EDIT: Also, the hostilities between the peoples of former Yugoslavia are mostly a product of the 20th century. Whatever incidents may happen between Serb and Croatian fans it won't be nearly as bad as whenever Red Star Belgrade plays against Partizan Belgrade which always has the potential to escalate into an Intifada.

With Brazil winning, they will face Mexico in the R16, while Sweden faces Switzerland.

Tomorrow's games, the last before the R16 starting on the 30th:
Senegal-Colombia
Japan-Poland

England-Belgium
Panama-Tunisia

Poland is out of the running, but the rest can all make it. If Japan has a good game against Poland, they're through to the next round. A tie will also be good. If Japan loses, they have to hope the other game doesn't end in a tie since Colombia then might potentially bump them to 3rd place. Otherwise, a win by Senegal will the the best result while Colombia's win can also work for them as long as Senegal doesn't score. Meanwhile, Senegal-Colombia can end either way, but I can actually see the latter giving a stronger performance. But I also thought Germany would have an easy group stages, so what the fuck do I know.

England and Belgium are both through so this game could have either meme potential or be a slurpfest since I hear both are resting some key players and could want to avoid getting first in their group, depending on what the final result of Group H will be. The other game will be pointless, but hey, if you don't want to watch two actually good teams play, might as well go for this.

Now off to fucking neck myself and hope Germany drops Khedira, Özil and Müller (at least) for good.

Yeah the Russians will probably get curb stomped by Spain, but if this World Cup has taught us anything is that the most unlikely shit can happen.

I'll support Croatia.

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised by that answer. However, if you guys can patch up your relationship after murdering each other for decades enough to root for each other, then good on you.

Not gonna lie, I'm still looking forward to England v. Belgium, even if they're resting some key players.

I would add Boateng to that list of Germans. Thoughts on whether Joachim Low gets sacked?

Thoughts on whether Joachim Low gets sacked?
He won't get sacked. The German FA supports him and even with such a heavy loss, they're not keen to see him go. But also they extended his contract til 2022, so they'd have to pay if they want to sack him. That said, Jogi might decide to resign himself. Not a decicion he'll make right now, I imagine he's completely worn out and dead inside. We'll see in the upcoming days. There's also the question of who to replace him with. The big German trainers (think Klopp and Tuchel) are still young and don't want to be tied down to the National Team. There's also Jupp Heynckes, but he's old and might not give a fuck. Not that many obvious choices. I did see some meme that they should ask Klinsmann to come back. And some American soccer fans were saying Jogi should go coach the USMNT with Klinsi. That would unironically be something I'd like to see.
Neuer is fucking toast, that's for certain.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44635468
I'm not so sure about that. He's still great, but he came off from a long injury and still at times seemed to be one of few people in the entire team who looked like he gave a fuck. He made a mistake in the game, yes, but they were fucked anyway and that situation is something Neuer has managed to salvage before. Just this time it didn't work and the situation for Germany was hopeless, so it seems harsher.

Now, if Jogi leaves, a new coach might start playing ter Stegen a lot more though. He hasn't been as solid for Germany as he has for Barcelona, but he's still the second best goalie in his country right now. A goalie can keep going longer than other players, so if Neuer can get fit again (mentally as well), he might still be first choice for Germany, like Buffon was for Italy.

Damnit, Germany...I thought the beaners were going to be eliminated. Well, at least Brazil can send them home now...and their quest to win a knockout game outside of Mexico will continue. Also funny that South Korea helped them through in the last game, just like they helped the U.S. in 2002. That's where we eliminated Mexico in the round of 16.

The fact that Germany got (unfairly, if I might personally add!) all that extra time and still couldn't capitalize on it is my own personal proof that THERE STILL IS justice in the world. So yeah - good riddance to Germany for 2018.

As for today's other games:

Brazil 2 - 0 Serbia

We couldn't have 2 popular teams going out - all I can say is the better team won here this time. At the very least, at least what leads up to the Final, which I'm confident they will make it to (as much as I otherwise don't like Brazil!), won't be completely boring and predictable. I'm thankful for that much.

Costa Rica 2 - 2 Switzerland
Shame that this draw is all the bite CRC 2018 had, compared to their 2014 squad. At least they went down fighting like Korea did against Germany today (Korea was the better fighter here, however.) - After this result, I don't fancy the Swiss getting past Knockouts like Brazil likely will. When all is said and done - Brazil (Winner) and Switzerland (Runner-Up)'s group truly was BS. BS they would take little to no prisoners in.

I'm looking forward mostly to Columbia - Senegal AND especially Belgium - England tomorrow.

As for what the current Knockouts look like so far and how I want them to go...

Uruguay - Portugal
--> I want Uruguay to win, but it's looking to be in Portugal's favor if, and only if, of course, everyone can help Ronaldo out on that day without question - he can't do it all himself.

France - Argentina
--> As much as I would like for Argentina to take it home here, France more than has their shit together. All Argentina has is over-reliance on one player to carry them (Messi) - same issue as Portugal, only much worse.

Brazil - Mexico --> Sorry, this is Brazil we're talking about going up against here. GAME OVER, Mexico. It was fun watching you play while it lasted, so thanks for that.

Spain - Russia --> GAME OVER, Russia - beat it! You're screwed and you never stood a chance if all those easy-to-best teams and your humilation at Uruguay's hand are any indication. Also, even if Spain is having some inner management troubles right now, they still got a good enough team to back their shit up in spades!

Croatia - Denmark --> Croatia all the way, even if this is one that could go either way.

Sweden - Switzerland --> Another match that could go either way, but I want Sweden to win, no questions asked.

If any sort of war happens after this, Germany ain't startin' it - they ain't got the reason, let alone cahones, to truly pull it off, now.

I'm glad the plumbers got at least one win in before they have to go home. Otherwise I'm rooting for Japan getting as far as the quarter finals.
