Where I'm from, WASP was "We Are Satan's People" (I've also heard "We Are Sexual Perverts"), AC/DC was "After Christ, Devil Conquers" (I was also told that "AC/DC" was a sort of gay sex act) and KISS was "Knights in Satan's Service" (although I've also heard it's "Kids in Satan's Service"). This is old-school lore passed down by Baptist churches around where I went to school. But in that era, Marilyn Manson was considered more evil than all of those old rock bands.

I don't know if it's all a joke or not. There's a lot of stupid people, and back in the 80s a lot of them were Christians.

The one about WASP probably started as a joke since a lot of WASP's songs are about sex and BDSM, and IIRC, even Blackie Lawless himself acknowledged it.

I remember all those old rumors, some of which still persisted in Appalachia well into the early 2000's when I was a kid. It was real interesting growing up in the Bible Belt when your parents are Gen X liberals with a dad who was a metalhead and classic rocker and your mom is both a goth and a metalhead (and two of her favorite bands being WASP and Siouxsie and the Banshees)

The ones I remember went kind of like this...

KISS - Knights In Satan's Service
AC/DC - Anti-Christ/Devil's Child
WASP - We Are Sexual Perverts

Marilyn Manson was also a common target, as were some of the actual goth bands from the 80's, though not as badly as Manson or the metal bands.

No joke, I remember some of the preachers saying that Siouxsie Sioux spelled her name that way because she made a pact with some Native American demon lord. But that one was nowhere near as widespread as the rumors about Marilyn Manson or the hard rock and heavy metal bands of the 70's and 80's and was probably localized.

Oddly enough, AC/DC is old-school slang for bisexuality in parts of Europe and the UK, which surprised the Australian band. They just picked the name at random when they saw it on a vacuum cleaner label.

They're going to have a eternal lockdown without a policy change. Obviously a island nation on the least populated continent in the world can easily halt international travel. But without a vaccine that makes people immune rather than just resistant they'll be staying isolated forever.

Auckland has gone into lockdown three times already. They'll keep repeating that process until the government has a policy change.

Uh no, vaccines prevent people from getting sick, that's the whole point.

No it's not. The smallpox and flu shots are sterilzing vaccines, i.e. you produce antibodies against the virus when you're vaccinated.

The various vaccines against the coof are not sterlizing. You will not produce Covid antibodies when you're injected. The hope is that the antibodies you do produce will provide some degree of resistance and T-cell immunity which will allow your immune system to react to the infection when you catch it (making you less sick), and you WILL catch it.

It's 100% likely that in the coming months and years we will see new strains of Covid that the vaccines won't work on, and they'll have to be either tweaked or replaced with new ones, which will mean regular mass vaccination campaigns.

TLDR the Covid vaccines are not designed to provide immunity, they're at best a therapy against severe illness. They definitely will not stop Covid from circulating, there is no prospect of eradication. The virus is now endemic and will be with us forever.

Well not eliminate the flu, but definitely made it more manageable. Though if these mRNA results keep outperforming expectations then we might see effective flu vaccines slowly remove it from existence over the decade.

Dude, the results so far show the vaccine is performing better than expected, adding on, they can update it in as little as 6 weeks if it’s not effective against variant, but so far it’s showing itself to be just as good against them.

The vaccine roll out has coincided with a collapse in case numbers due to the achievement of suppression and at least partial herd immunity. Spare me the explainer that the vaccines are responsible for this, in countries that have vaccinated essentially no one we're witnessing a similar collapse in case numbers.

This is entirely to be expected, the coof has swept through the human population and the pandemic is essentially over in most countries. Like any other Coronavirus Covid will remain background noise for the next 18 months to 2 years then we'll see the real second wave.

The stuff the government are injecting us with are not vaccines, they're preventative therapies (we think). They're therapies that have not been properly tested. They're therapies that the vast majority of people don't need as Covid is dangerous to a relatively small proportion of the population. Why are we taking this risk for a virus that has a 0.26% mortality rate? When we already have effective prophylactic drugs that have been tested safe for decades?

I'm all in favor of fat people being offered the shot, if that's what they want. I'm not fat, I don't have diabetes or high blood pressure, I'm at zero risk of dying from Covid. I shouldn't be made to take an experimental drug therapy that accrues me zero benefit and neither should anyone else.
