What is the worst and most terrifying nightmare you experienced?

I dreamed that I was running from a tornado in some rubber boats, but the boats slowly became concrete. As a result, I could not move and helplessly watched as the tornado approached me.

All of my nightmares are variations on a theme of beating or murdering people for what I believe are righteous reasons only to discover after the fact that I was wrong. Over and over again, different scenarios but the same story. It has been this way for years.

As a kid I had a lot of nightmares because I was a retard who watched horror films and had a terrible fear of the darkness as a result.

Many of them involved running away from something without any hope at surviving, like a zombie apocalypse.

Ironically, my worst nightmare was the most tame — just me lying in my bed and hearing an unknown voice coming from my pitch black door, telling some story and growing closer. It freaked me out because everything looked too real and I never heard any distinct voices in my dreams before. The fact it might open the door and I see what it is scared the shit out of me. And what's worse, I couldn't force myself to wake up immediately, repeating the same thing with waking up to a voice starting to talk, again and again, barely able to move.

When I did wake up, I felt like a huge rock was lifted from my chest, and I could swear I saw some fucking transparent pitch black thing exiting through the ceiling of my room. After this I watched TV for a few hours because I was too scared to sleep or leave the room.

Looking back at this, I'm pretty sure it was just some rare episode of sleep paralysis but a ten-year-old me didn't know about such stuff at the time.

I get sleep paralysis occasionally and one time I had a dream where I knew I was in bed and was basically dreaming that I was in bed trying to get up. In my dream I kept sitting up but when i felt that my body was still laying down and my eyes where shut I was instantly in my bed again, so it formed a loop of thinking I was getting up and being slammed right back into bed over and over. The entire time I felt my body as I desperately tried to force my eyes open and all my muscles shook, flexed and hurt as i panicked for what felt like an hour. It was truly terrifying and at one point I distinctively remember thinking I was in the middle of dying. When I finally woke up my body ached and I was drenched in sweat.

Okay if sleep paralysis counts, Ive had it like 3 times in my life, the first two were just spooky haunting shit like the sounds of footsteps and shit being moved around my room. The last one was probably a couple of months back, I was laying in bed (duh) and I heard the what sounded like a child screaming for help outside my window, they were say shit like "someone please help he's gonna get me!" "Please anyone I'm going to die" and shit like that, now me being paralyzed and all I had no choice but to sit and listen, and next thing I know there are blood curdling screams coming from outside and it genuinely sounded like a child was being murdered right outside, and I could do nothing about it. When I was able to move again, I fucking rushed outside my house, turned on all the outdoor lights and started searching my yard for ANY signs of this shit happening, because even though I knew it was sleep paralysis, it was so real I just needed to make sure. I sent a message to the homies about it and went back to bed. Legitimately, fuck that shit.

Only nightmare ive ever had was when I was about 4-5. I was playing in the woods until I was chased by a canine type monster, made it all the way to the door of my house, then was snatched away last second tragically.

After that my over exposure to horror media warped my perception and any other nightmare ended up with me becoming lucid and experiencing the dream as if I was in a movie.

the worst and most terrifying dreams are the ones where i fall in love because its the most intense emotion ive ever felt. love feels extremely powerful and all consuming in a dream. then i wake up and its all fucking over. ive only had 2 of these dreams, both of them years ago and i still remember them like it was last night. i know i will never feel that way in real life towards anyone because im just not able to and its kinda depressing

I fucking hate these so much, JUST GIVE ME THE BIG TITTY GIRL OF MY DREAMS GOD WHYYYY. But more seriously, which ever dream has the scariest CGI demon from those Paranormal Reality shows for me. Also, Michael Bay's Decepticons and the Ghostbusters films have often accompanied my nightmares of old and new.

I’m having really strange dreams since moving abroad, probably culture shock. For context, I am in a relatively liberal and foreign-friendly part of the Middle East for at least another month while I wait on further higher education acceptance. Got a remote work visa due to my niche job. It’s temporary and I am with people who know how to behave in this context.

Anyway, I dreamed that I committed some crime (unclear what, I didn’t have mens rea/intent and have been super careful IRL), and I had to choose between prison or having my hand cut off. I chose the hand and had a disturbingly realistic body horror moment of looking at the stump. Guess I’m vegetarian for a while.
