Long ago, some kid tried to buy a gift card.
Thankfully, the kid isn't the bad one here.
He came up to me with a little pouch and carrying a gift card, and wanted $10 on it. Then he opened his pouch and it was all quarters. During the counting, two women came up behind him.
Kid came up three quarters short.
I felt bad for him, because I could tell the gift card was meant to be for someone, since he started getting all nervous and looked for his pouch for any quarters he missed, muttering about a birthdaypresent. One of the women started getting irritated, and started sarcastically scolding the kid for holding up the line. Kid picked it up and canceled his purchase so it was her turn.
That woman had an expression so smug that I couldn't help but be annoyed but fortunately I just kept it in check.
The second woman gave the kid three quarters when she came up to buy her stuff. That kid had such a surprised expression on his face while thanking her, brought the gift card, and left with a spring on his step.
