Worst Redesigns

I'll start.

Littlest Pet Shop

Spoiler: Gen 1 - 3

Good quality, a lot of thought put into it. I loved these growing up. Colorful, lively. The pets had a nice texture to them. The site back then was also creative.

Spoiler: Gen 4 - Present (Redesign)

Then BOOM. They all look like they were exposed to a nuclear power plant. They feel as bad as they look. They are oily, plastic, and overall lower quality. It's like an identity crisis. Even if you were to collect them, I don't see the point anymore due to how bad the quality is. It looks & feels like a McDonald's toy. As for their website, it looks exactly like all the other "modern" websites out there.

DA has gone through a lot of redesigns but Eclipse was the most major one. It may look okay but DA forced it on its user's while it was still an unfinished, buggy mess. A LOT of members left. They removed the "new deviations" tab possibly due to how much porn took over. Not just fetish art, porn. Core membership has become borderline useless and has been forced on users who do commission work. HTML customization is no loner a thing. A lot has happened.

Those are the two I cared about the most.
Honorable mention would be Carebear's modern day designs compared to back then- it looks like shit but at least bootleggers haven't overtook the Carebear market when it comes to collecting the old merch like they did with LPS.

Not really a redesign since the cartoon and movie aren’t connected but I prefer the shitty Beatles cartoon designs over the Yellow Submarine ones. This one’s more a matter of taste they’re both good interpretations of what the Beatles looked like at different points in their careers.

I would say it became objectively worse from the UX point of view. Let's say you want to add a submission to faves. Back then you could drag and drop it into the folder you need - simple. Now you have to:
1)Press "Add to favorites" button.
2)Press "Change collection" button.
3)Unpress "Featured collection".
4)Press the collection you need.

Four fucking actions instead of one!

It's part of contemporary graphic design theory. Simpler logos are easier to make into vector graphics, are more legible in print and on screens, and are simpler to resize. Something like the oldschool Burberry logo would be a bitch to work with, so...

Yeah, basically, they dumb it down and suck the soul out of it, so they can put in less effort. Graphic designers won't put it in those exact words, but that's essentially what you learn in graphic design classes.

When Ascendancy* was re-released for iOS, the new interface looked really cluttered and "generically smartphone-y". Also, for some reason, the company pulled it from the Apple store shortly after release.

Do Beanie Babies count? I really dislike the giant glittery "realistic" eyes of newer ones, and really every other modern plush you see in stores. I think the problem is they add way too much detail to the face.
