Worst Redesigns

I'm going to go with disney/pixar sequels "strong independent woman" redesigns. I especially dislike Bo Peep. The visual design in Toy Story 4 is so much blander and kinda confused. The original is a girly girl porcelain figure witch fits her calm lady like personality, witch plays off well with Woody's neurotic and jealous tendencies. The new is just a tomboy, equal to Woody at start and better than him by the time we meet her again. This makes no sense what we saw her before and they don't have much chemistry. Plus her sort of underwear action clothes looks ridiculous and are not as telling of her background or personality.

One thing that bugged me was how does a solid porcelain doll change it's clothing? In the general setting of Toy Story, the characters are still limited by the fact that they're toys. Bo Peep's arm also breaks, demonstrating that she's made of porcelain, yet something that would have been integral to her design and pretty much fixed in place.

it's just a stark contrast to the overall cohesion and attention to detail throughout the series as a whole.

I assume that they went more towards a porcelain doll with fabric clothing in 4. To be fair the original clearly has some cloth detailing and Bo Peep has few different poses when Andy is around, so I'm not completely sure how solid or how many parts she was ment to be.

But regardless I still think her new design sucks and is too far from her original. Like I forgot to mention that her eyes look too human instead painted on details like the original. She isn't an unusual doll from a nursery rhyme but a generic action human girl that could be from any movie.

Its probably beating a dead horse at this point, but I've still never gotten over the JJ Abrams redesign of the original USS Enterprise.

Just how do you go from this:

To this:

Press releases from the era say they wanted to make it look more like the 1979 movie Enterprise but, well, you tell me:

The TMP Enterprise is also a little bonus. I personally love the design, but the designer of the first one, Matt Jefferies, really didn't to put it bluntly. Matt Jefferies claimed that they had turned the Enterprise into "the lobby of the Hilton", and said that not only did he fall asleep during the first movie, he never watched any Star Trek made after that.
Lore wise it makes sense as it kept getting a retrofit done to it. It even needed to through a lot of changes when it got back from it's first "five year mission".

"The unicorn trademark for Burroughs Wellcome and the Wellcome Foundation. The original version is on the left; it was later given a modern makeover."
It's still a pretty terrible design according to modern criteria. Too complicated.

"hey let's turn Lobo into a bishounen faggot" said some idiot somewhere
I stopped caring about Lobo as soon as I heard about the Bishi arc, but comic book friends of mine tell me they cancelled him after only a year or so, then quietly brought back the Classic.

I agree, though; Bishi Lobo was probably the worst redesign in history, at least so far as I'm concerned. I would have rather they went back to Ronald McDonald Lobo:

Kia's recent logo change also comes to mind:

Yes, I can understand why the changed the logo, because they wanted to do away with the "crappy '80s and '90s Korean cars" reputation that they, along with Hyundai and Daewoo had, but the new logo looks too edgy. The new logo also seems out of place on their cheaper cars, i.e. the Rio and the Forte.

GM's recent logo change just seems plain unnecessary, since they only changed the letters to lower case, and a different font, for the most part:

Yeah, if you notice, both KIA and GM dropped the serifs (the little dangly extra bits on the end of certain letters), which is part of the current trend towards ensuring legibility on tiny phone screens. I'm not really sure why KIA dumped the oval - that, to me, was the most recognizable part of their branding - but sure, I guess if KIA is trying to distance themselves from their old brand image, then eliminating the oval would be a good way to do it?

When did that logo change happen? I never followed WheelChairWrestling, but without really knowing any other context, my guess would be it was an attempt to compete with the Attitude Era and ECW.

Late Spring/Early Summer 1999? WCW's complete nosedive lines up almost perfectly with the change. The last great WCW PPV, Spring Stampede 1999, was shortly after the change.

She Ra, He-Man's less memorable sister show, had designs that were already super meh at the first place but somehow the modern design team are so incompetent and couldn't even give it less of a shit and made them even more forgettable than the old ones. For Fucks Sake
if you scramble the new designs with shit Tumblrites pump out, you wouldn't even know they're there.

I remember the creative team behind Nu-She-Ra wanted the women to look flat and dumpy to shut off "the male gaze".

Hahaha, you can't shut off the male gaze, men are horny as fuck and will jack off to everything from feet to cars. There's most definitely R34 of this shitty reboot of a shitty toy selling show from the 80s, and there's always gonna be regardless of what you do. There's literally muslim burqa porn, regardless of the fact that the burqa was designed to stop women from being sexually arousing to men.

Damn, they even turned a redheaded character black in this fucking thing.
