In the past decade smartphones have become ubiquitous, with most people having access to the internet and social media in their pocket at all times. Would society be better if it somehow reverted to a world in which convenient instant internet access was relegated to dedicated computers, and phones reverted to simple applications such as text messaging, phone calls and slow basic internet?
Personally I think so. Something I've noticed increasingly are people who's primary hobby seems to be consuming social media, not creating content, but consuming massive amounts of content, in bed, on their phone. I think it would help also make the internet less toxic, as it would require the user to choose to sit at and focus on their computer, as opposed to being able to fire off a poorly thought out tweet instantly, anywhere they may happen to find themselves.
