Don't worry too much about your similarities to Chris, many of us are like him, too. We used to have a thread dedicated to listing our similarities to Chris, but it got locked.

As long as you realize that you need to improve yourself and take the necessary steps to do so, you're light years ahead of Chris.

I think that Chris could really benefit from some light volunteer work, if he was supervised the entire time and made to do it. He might even find that he enjoys it, although I doubt he'd admit it to anyone--even himself.

Ile be the first to admit that Im not to far removed from Chris alot of ways (HFA, Wellfare, unemployed, live with parents). So I was wondering if somthing that I benefited from would do Chris good. When I finished college a couple of years ago my job prospects werent looking to good so the Job center recomended that I do voluntary work (mostly in charity shops) so I did. While I havent been able to get a job since then I have been able to keep myself buisy thanks to it.

You are farther removed from Chris than you think, because you want to work and improve your situation. Even if you don't get a paying job, you are doing something for your community. I have no problem with my tax money helping people like you who are trying rather than just being a parasite.

So Im wondering would Chris have benefited from this? Would he be able to cope? If so how would it help him and if not where would things go wrong?

Absolutely he would benefit! A routine, a reason to get up, real life socialization, some activity, a sense of accomplishment, and being able to say that he's giving back something for all the years of :tugboat: .

I think with the right place he could cope, sure, there could be problems, but this would be a step in helping Chris learn to deal with or avoid those problems. He's not going to get better going the way he is now.

But, of course, work is not something Chris would ever volunteer for. He's quite content to sit on his ass and collect free money every month. I thought maybe if he got arrested again and was court ordered to do some community service work he might see it's not a bad thing, but, no, that would just make him think work=punishment. Chris won't even work on things he wants like Sonichu and his high school reunion.

Brother, of course it would. But Chris would never do that, since he is a lazy ass who would just complain about the stuhress.

The problem with volunteer work is that there are only abstract benefits. You might feel good because you're helping, it might look good on your CV, or it might help you acclimatise with a regular sleep schedule and routine.

It takes up a grand number of vidya hours though, and with no concrete incentives to continue attending I don't think it would be long before OPL just started no-showing.

The problem is Chris has a "me me me" attitude and volunteer work is usually selfless. He can't be bothered to mow his own lawn.

And to thelastdalek, you may think you are similar to OPL in a lot of ways but you're way ahead of him. I don't even know you but the way you present yourself puts you on a level that Chris will never attain. It's no contest.

In theory, yes, it would be good for him to talk to people and go outside, do different stuff.
In practice, no.He'll most likely get in trouble for doing his usual stuff (temper tantrums, vandalizing displays, etc)
Also, as far as I understood when you're applying for a volunteer position you will be interviewed , I don't think he'll make it past this interview either.

He could volunteer as a Pokemon TCG gym leader if that dang Michael Snyder would let him back into Eden. *SIGH*
