Would you try to preserve the timeline?

If you were sent back in back in time several hundred years would you allow yourself to influence society? Would you try to isolate yourself to prevent altering the timeline?

Rules: you can prevent your parents from existing but it doesn't create a paradox and you continue to exist. You're also stuck in your new timeline and can't return to the original timeline.

If I were to ever time travel, I'm pretty sure I would try to use my general modern day knowledge to get rich and powerful and take credit for shit I would be way too stupid to figure out on my own.

That timeline would be royally fucked.

I'd give humanity just enough knowledge to prove beyond any shadow of a doubt that I was legit, then spend the rest of my life answering every question posed to me with cryptically menacing answers like "It doesn't matter. You won't have to worry about it for long."

I would start recording everything I see, go visit the Sumerians, fast forward to time, hang out with various Bronze Age civilizations, rinse and repeat.

I'd tell past civilizations about the coming of the true prophet, L. Ron Hubbard (pbuh).

I'd go back several hundred years and go through each generation proving to them that I was a time traveler and making weird and horrific predictions about the imminent destruction of the planet. As soon as I got bored fucking with one generation, I'd just jump ahead 20 or 30 years and start it all over again.
