Yes, hardcore lockdowns is showing leadership and initiative, but every plan to exit lockdown ended up with constantly moving goalposts, contradicting information, and flagrant hypocrisy (i.e. Saint Floyd riots). On TV you have Fauci and other doctors constantly flip-flopping, even in the early days. The government constantly looks clueless on what they're actually fighting other than "some scary new disease." At least to me, "Saddam's got WMDs, let's invade Iraq" and "Mission Accomplished" seems on the surface a lot more plausible than the nonsense they've been spewing since last summer.

I had a cautious approach toward covid when it first started to become a thing in the US - while not buying into the hype, ie wait and see. The first blow to their credibility in my eyes was the bullshit on masks. At first, I thought they were wrong about masks when early on they were saying not to wear them; they were (accurately) stating that studies had long shown they did almost nothing. I checked some of the earlier studies and they were right.

But then they changed their minds once businesses started to lean on health authorities due to the disastrous effects of lockdowns. Pretending masks did fuck all of anything seemed to be the lie we were told so we could 'reopen' and not destroy society.

Then, it was St. Floyd (of Blessed Memory), patron saint of counterfeiters protests being somehow non contagious while anti-lockdown protests were SUPER SPREADER events. From then on, it was obviously the whole thing was political and a means to an end for control freaks, and I really never believed anything they've said since.

It was the actual timeline that made me skeptical, covid was bouncing around October/November time, you really going to tell me that the so-called highly infectious super virus didn't overwhelm the hospitals (the initial reason that we went into lockdown) or reach other parts of the world during peak winter when there was zero restriction on travel during the time that humans are move all over the place for a family gathering?

Keep in mind, some places didn't lockdown till march, nearly half a year from the first outbreak.

Said this a few weeks on this thread, but if we are back in full lockdown this winter with masks and travel bans etc. and it truly looks like this is 'the new normal', just wait for the massive uptick in people who seriously consider suicide. We're entering our third year on this ride and there's no sign of us getting off, it wouldn't shock me if a lot of people just tap out altogether.

As someone who knows the feel, moving out of an urban environment helped me out tremendously - just not being confronted by the endless NPC billboards, enforcers and fully subverted/programmed greys solves 80% of the problem, for me at least.

I just simply cannot believe that we continue to have lockdowns and extreme measures for an illness that, in 2 years, has killed 5 million people out of 7.9 billion. That's not even 1% of the population that has been killed by covid. And I say this as someone who lost 2 relatives to the disease. It sucks and it's tragic -- but had they died of the flu or pneumonia, nobody would be demanding the entire world stop because of it.

And that 5 million is at least somewhat exaggerated to begin with, perhaps egregiously so depending on the country.

To put it in perspective, if this were as deadly as the Spanish Flu there would have been, at the most conservative minimum, 75 million people dead by now. 450 million at the highest estimate. At best it's comparable to the Asian Flu of 1957, which is basically forgotten.

Interestingly, China also failed to notify the world of that one's outbreak as well.
