Is Series S really holding anything back? Or just preventing even more retarded practices.
it has a far weaker gpu and the cpu is gimped for it by running at a lower clock speed. developers working for it complained that due to this, they've had to reduce the graphical fidelity of their games so they can both match the series x and s, which tells me xbox is either making them do that or the publisher

The Series S is fine my other half uses theirs a lot, and so far, no issues. It's nice, honestly, because transporting, I had mine on a flight and it was just fine.

I don't get why they have not done a master game pass with passes and WoW subscriptions either. People would eat that shit up, and if I were playing anything other than WoW, then I would.

As for GamePass, there is fuck all on there.

This will probably be a long spergy post but man, i bought the Series S before i could build a new pc and boy do i regret it. It made for a pretty fine Cyberpunk 2077 and Game Pass machine while i waited for those new Xbox titles (I really had high hopes for Perfect Dark), but i'm so dissapointed with the brand i might just sell my console atp, what a fucking failure lol

So many fantastic franchises under their wing, tons of talented studios, and they just squandered it this hard.

Halo Infinite had genuinely great gameplay, felt like a return to form, and they fucked it up by making half a campaign with a single biome when it CLEARLY needed more, the graphics look HORRID coming from such a 'New-Gen Showcase' type franchise, completely screwed up progression for trashy expensive as fuck customization, and it generally has such horrible UX that it completely turned me of from playing, even though i was really hooked.

No one on earth cares about Gears of War, Forza Horizon, Sea of Thieves, Avowed, Outer Worlds or Grounded.

Obsidian is just the definition of washed, they keep dragging the corpse of Fallout New Vegas on every trailer like it means something, like those people didn't leave eons ago and they just keep releasing uninteresting trash, i didn't care for Pentiment, i don't care for PoE, i don't care for their bootleg Temu brand Bethesda Games a.k.a Avowed and Outer Worlds.
Also WHO IN THE WORLD asked for GROUNDED 2

State of Decay 3 is still M.I.A, which is a shame considering SoD2 is probably my favourite survival game ever

They killed Perfect Dark, they killed any franchise potential for Hi-Fi Rush, OD's dead in the water seeing it's a Cloud-based game, Contraband's probably coming out two gens from now or not coming at all, Clockwork Revolution looks like a slightly better Outer Worlds (What is the point of having 2 separate Fallout-likes in development when you already own Fallout lol). And then there's the absolute disaster that was the Activision buyout, what was even the point of that.

What a waste.

Microsoft is just throwing turds at the wall, hoping one sticks, not unlike what Sony is doing with live services. The entire Microsoft umbrella is too bogged down by suits, ideologues, and jeets to understand where they're going wrong.

Considering it has less RAM than its previous gen counterpart, the Steam Deck, and the toy handheld Nintendo just released - yes.
Did you both just ignore the other part of my post on purpose? More graphics isn't leading to better games, it's leading to worse ones.

If you want to play old games, you can play old games. Devs are going to make games that fit the most average spec of the hardware available. Right now that's between 12-16 GB of VRAM (possibly less VRAM but buoyed by system ram is also fine on PC).

The fact that the Series S sits firmly outside this spec range means that it's always going to present a problem for bringing current gen titles to Xbox. If you don't care about current gen titles, why own a current gen console?

Honestly the one thing I'll give the Series S and the Switch credit for is essentially forcing developers to fucking optimise their games a little more. If developers had their way they'd just say "just get a graphics card with an extra 10GB of RAM if you want to play this game to an acceptable framerate" and that'd be that. We're getting optimisations that not only allow games to run on a Series S but allow more power to be cranked out of higher rigs.

the whole MUH SERIES S argument falls flat the moment notices shit like witcher 3 got ported to the fucking switch of all things.
yeah it's severely gimped, but the problem isn't the hardware, but the assumption (most likely from microsoft because MUH PARITY) that it still needs to do 4k + raytracing instead of much more sensible, but lower, settings.

Nier Automata and Ace Combat 7 got extremely competent Switch ports.

Tony Hawk 3&4 just came out cross on PS5 Pro and Switch 1.

Hardware isn't a limiting factor anymore, it's just down to business decisions on what to support and what not to. And it's not a very good business decision to spend more money on increasingly barely perceptible visual differences for a shrinking market.

Modern games requiring tons of VRAM run so poorly on even high end hardware that they require AI upscaling that end up making the whole image look like soup, what are we even doing here?

It's not a matter of wanting to or not to play old games, I'd like new games not to run like shit, play like shit, and take forever to come out, and you know preferably not have so many niggers and troon shit shoved in.

When Devs shit talk the Series S it always feels like a cope.

Like, if Series S is *that* bad just make your shit PS5 exclusive?

"Oh, well we can't afford to do that" well then they probably can't afford to actually make the game they claim Series S is holding them back on anyways if they need the combined sales of the floundering Xbox and Sony fanbases.

Remember when Xbox pushed for games preservation? Well, removing the Xbox 360 marketplace is not the way to do it. Even Sony's PS3 has its marketplace active as of now. I say this with the removal of Microsoft TV and Video storefront, who would buy movies and TV shows directly from a games console anymore? It's not 2007. But, this shows how Microsoft loves to bank on something and get rid of it over time.

Even worse is that the 360 marketplace was still highly profitable. The week before they shut it down they also got a massive surge in sales, probably enough to keep it afloat for another decade. But even if they had kept it open it wasn't a complete archive of 360 games. They had lost tons of the Arcade and On Demand titles due to licensing issues over the years. Probably 25% of all 360 games were removed from the store in the years before Microsoft finally closed it for good.

thats why PC Gaming is generally the optimal way to go at this point despite the system requirement bloat of recent AAA games, consoles just arent worth it anymore and even some normalfags now see that
