In order to save the planet, Microsoft has decided XBOX owners are too fucking retarded to know how to power off their own consoles. Thankfully, the average XBOX owner does not need to think for themselves as Daddy Gates is there with a hard coded remote shut down that can tell your console to turn off.

BTW, if you accepted the recent software update on your Xbox you agreed to the new TOS that gives Microsoft an exclusive right to shut your console down remotely without any further consent from you.

Chris-Chan was right about something, if for the wrong reason

So if I'm understanding this right, I could be playing Xbox one day and then it just turns off for no reason, and that's a feature not a bug? Makes me pissed that I bought an Xbox and not a PlayStation a few years ago.
Nah it just means they enabled deep sleep for all of them I think - where if there is no controller input for ten minutes (and it’s not playing a movie) it turns off.

Yep. Say you live in California, and a "energy emergency" declared. The governor could just shut off the power generally. Or he could run to Microsoft and tell them to just shut off their video game consoles.

It's more good idea fairy dust from the micro managers at big tech. It seems like a good idea until you actually dig into what it actually means.

Oh no. It's a remote access kill switch. It CAN be used to remotely turn off a console that has been left on. But as has been stated it can also be used to turn it off mid play.

The journalists who aren't entirely retarded are mentioning this "feature" is still in testing (and can currently be reverted to prior sleep/shutdown behavior), so probably coming to Windows 10/11 as well in the near future.

They couldn't care less about the environment, this is just about normalizing more invasive control over their customers' hardware.
I agree. This feels similar to what China did when they wanted to limit the children's time spent on gaming. Microsoft is just using "muh Climate Change" to manufacture the consent.

I swear to god, if this comes to windows, I will rip apart the registry and whatever else I need to disable this.

Should have listened to @Marissa Moira and worshipped Soyny.

Just kidding. You shouldn't have been a console peasant in the first place.
