One of the few things that motivates Chris is hatred. And gaming is just about the only thing that Chris has to live for anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if he made some kind of smug screed against his ancient and arbitrary enemy, The Hetts Botts.
I guess I should have been more clear. I doubt Chris cares about the whole always on the internet/camera part of XBox one. Hell I'd be surprised if he knew about that. I'm sure it stays at the "OMG Itz da ENEMEE!!!" level of tard raging as opposed to actual reasons.
There are a multitude of reasons why the Playstation 4 would appear to be better than the Xbone; I certainly agree with them and will be upgrading my life with a Quad this holiday. However, I doubt Chris knows too many of the details surrounding each console. At best he's probably heard snippets of people saying the PS4 is going to blow Xbone away, and he'll agree with it because Sony is Sony and Xbox is Hex Bawx.

That said, I wonder if he plans on getting a Quad.

Isn't this how that Gaikai service is essentially supposed to function?

if it's a waste of his non-gas money, he'll buy it.

He should do what I'm doing: Every day from now til it comes out, squirrel away a few dollars. Maybe a little more every time I have an extra-profitable day at work. By my calculations, by the time the thing comes out I'll be sitting on enough money to buy the console and 2 or maybe even 3 games (and I don't think there will be 3 games I want at launch, some of the stuff I want isn't til 2014).

I call it the Quad Wad. Or q-wad, for short.

I don't have any Sony toys, the last game I played was on my brother's PS2. But I heard that you can't play PS3 games on the PS4, or the other way around... can someone tell me if I'm right or wrong? I recently had a friend bitch about the new Kingdom Hearts game being only for the PS4.

I think you might misunderstand how consoles work. The PS3 and PS4 are vastly different architectures. You can't play a PS4 game on a PS3, but there are some games that exist for both, because they were manually ported to each console.

In theory though, you can play PS3 on the PS4 via a software layer like emulation, but not the other way around. There is no backward compatibility on PS4 last I checked.

I admit that I am a old-schooler when it comes to video games. I've played GameCube, Wii, and PS2, but never owned any of them so my experience with them is fairly limited, though I have played the PS2 more than the others. I mainly play via emulation on my laptop because I like older games better, they had to focus more on gameplay than graphics. so I am way, way, way behind in the gaming scene. I actually prefer Super Mario World to Mario 64, but I absolutely love Goldeneye and Waverace. I've never played a MMORPG or any other online game. Never played a PSTriple or a XBox. I don't own any Mac stuff or Androids or any sort of smartphone, so any games made for these devices are also out of the question for me.

That said, I hate when companies don't incorporate backwards compatibility. Heck, the Gameboy Advance could be played with old Gameboy games. So I'm confused as hell about this PS4 thing. I did a Google image search on PS4 and I'm coming up with all sorts of so-called PS4 consoles before I said fuck it and just went to Wikipedia. Is this the right image for PS4? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PlayS ... t_File.png

I do like video games, but I hate how video game companies find ways to screw people (XBox One, for a huge example) Any time a developer comes up with a new generation they should put in backwards compatibility. I read the Wiki article on the PSQuad and they did mention cloud emulation and all that but what if you already have a copy of the game for PSTriple? Are they going to make you pay for another version of the same game for PS4? Fuck that shit.

I'll stick with my NES/Sega/SNES/Gameboy roms. Old school FTW.

I'm just glad PS3 games will be cheap as chips after PS4 drops.

Either pay for another copy of the game, or just...have two consoles. Which is still excruciatingly stupid. The lack of backwards compatibility is really putting me off, too, because there are games I'd like for both the PS3 (Uncharted! Tales of Graces!) and PS4 (Kingdom Hearts!) and I'm not terribly keen on forking out for two consoles from the same company.

How much space is there in the single room where Chris and Barb spend their days, now? Between them, the things they use every day, and Barb's hoard, there might not be room for a new console come launch day. I predict some heavy-duty stress sighing from Chris after he and Barb get into a fight about moving some of her Goodwill junk to make room for the Quad.

Yeah, I admit this is the biggest reason I'm looking forward to the Quad. PS3s will probably be a lot cheaper.

One of the issues with the triple was that it had a very unique architecture that made it very difficult to program for. Sony went with a much more PC like design with the PS4 to rectify this, unfortunately this makes it impossible to play the previous generation's games. They could have added components from the ps3 into the ps4 to allow you to play ps3 games on it but this would have driven the price of the console up. Sony actually did this with ps3 originally so you could play ps2 games on it but it made it too expensive and it sold poorly in the beginning. Sony have stated that it'll happen eventually using the Gaikai tech, but it'll come with a price.
Backward compatibility is something that people want, but sadly nobody wants to pay the extra to make it happen.

I couldn't see your picture so here's one

Anyway, if Chris has anything to say on this it'll no doubt come with a great deal of smugness, but then Microsoft seem to have gone out of their way to piss people off this time round so he's not going to be alone.
Although I still maintain that the very concept of sitting on his ass controlling his devices by shouting at them like the XBone allows is right up his street.

Eh, he'll most likely criticise complain and bitch about the XBox One without doing any research about it.

OMFG, the horror stories I heard from folks working on games in the first year - before more third party APIs and engines rolled out for the architecture - were terrible.

When it comes to all of the online rabble about Xbox One, I wonder if Chris is even aware of it. He's so tuned from the rest of the world. He has less than 15 friends on Facebook, and he never goes outside the house for more than a few minutes at a time. There are some very genuine criticisms that people are bringing up about Xbox One, along with all of the usual fanboyism, and I suspect Chris will manufacture his own reasons not to like the thing (or - as you suggested - maybe fall in love with it).

I'm ruling out the possibility that an Apple iOS product might eventually dominate his time. There are a ton of titles that would appeal to his quirks, and he's obviously not averse to dropping a ton of cash on overpriced hardware (though, to be fair, you're paying for all the expensive marketing it took to build the public perception of the product, and a reasonably nice OS).
