Having a 'best of' per thread showing the most informative / funniest / whatever ratings is on the table if I make myself.

A "usability" problem with KF by the very nature of watching cows for the long-term is how hard it can be to get into a thread after it becomes hundreds of pages long. If you go ahead with the "best of" feature, it should be simple to also take the chance to add a "noise filter" mode which instead of highlighting the best, just hides all posts below a certain rating threshold (with an arbitrary value of say, 10 positive rating/reaction score)?

This would make it a lot easier to read up all on of those long-standing threads in their entirety without actually having to go through all the autism of the day-to-day jokes that comes with each update. Another idea would be to "filter noise" by hiding everything but the "informative" posts in a thread.

I can't be the only one who sometimes looks at a thread and thinks "that looks pretty interesting but not interesting enough for me to read 300 pages to see what's up". Seeing the "best of" idea would do all of the heavy lifting already, I thought I might as well push for this...

Or what if instead with the "best of" you could choose "best of informative", "best of thoughtful"...? That might be a one-size-fits-all solution.

Yeah, I tried introducing someone to this site via the thread on Jonathan Yaniv and they stopped reading like 12 pages in because it became a sort of echo-chamber of the same "holy shit tampon string :story:" opinion.

A "best of" or filtering system would do wonders for newbies. Not everyone wants to do what I did and read 600 pages on a single person when there's really only 12 pages of content to actually see.

I know what you mean, I did that for the Trans Lifeline thread and it took me some three days too (:_( now I think a lot more if I want to get this deep into a thread or not. I don't think I've ever done it again since.

It's not trivial to make a "relevant filter" that will work well and/or for all threads big and small but I'm sure Null knows what he's doing, if he decides to go for that. I think it would be great (not to mention securing the need for reactions on KF 2.0 lol). It would legitimately solve a problem that the platform has right now.

A thought I had for a while that I cane here to suggest is a “Filter by informative” option. Let that rating hold weight.

I think Best of is good too, but sometimes I just want to know if there has been any new developments in a cow/drama, and would like to filter out even the good banter.

Couldn't get much done today because it's stream day but I did get some work done with what I'm calling "React+", or my casual extension of the new Reactions system to fit the needs currently implemented by the rating mod.

I should get this done on the 15th and then I have 9 more days to work on scrapping together a featured thread implementation.

If we used post comments we could separate updates from comments on updates. This would make it much easier to skim through/get into longer threads.

Cool idea but:
  1. How do notifications work? One major issue with reddit-style comments (on reddit, at least) is that only the person you replied to gets a notification. This results in a thread not being a collective discussion anymore, where everyone is notified of all replies. I personally think this is a must-have for KF, with people actually becoming "engaged" in the threads they follow, and not just skipping by to see and comment on "today's posts".
  2. Do we trust farmers to use this feature properly? Half the people here are bigger spergs than I am and that's saying something :lit: if anyone can post both posts and comments in a thread it'd be a huge mess.
I think this might be a very cool experiment on some threads down the road, but not as a default for KF 2.0. Also, Null mentioned he's settled on a feature set already for the update at this point, if I'm not mistaken.

If only they had their own forum to make new threads in

no. I've thought about it but out-of-order post messages fucking suck. Even with Twitter, when they decided to switch from organized chronological timelines to "whatever we want to show you is most important, trust us goy" it fucking sucked.
