xkcd griefing thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
The fact that he's still going is fascinating - Achewood stopped and started and now is a Patreon thing, other webcomics of the era have moved on or changed it up. Most cartoonists burn out after ten years or so unless you're Charles Schulz.

This was from the 28th, it's basically a tweet from 2010? Like I'm sure someone made this exact joke on Twitter thirteen years ago.

I really think Randall lost his wife.

Web cartoonists often put their life into their work, and in the early days we saw stick figures having sex a lot. Later, there was the cancer arc, where the fiancee/wife gets cancer with the last mention being in 2020. Most couples eventually have a baby (if they went with the white liberal route of a beloved pet as baby surrogate, I would expect to see more cat/dog comics). I've thought with the curious absence of real life, whether a kid, pet, or beloved wife, was odd.

So there are a few theories I have that could've happened:

1) With no stable ground of why they married beyond "I like having sex with you", they got divorced. This could be anything. Either "Megan" (ExplainXKCD's name for the female character) wanted a kid and Randall wasn't having it, or something else happened that drove a wedge in their relationship and they separated.

2) She's been dead for a while. Randall's further descent into leftist politics is cope.

I know nothing about this guy, but I saw this in the Liz Fong-Jones thread

Referencing the infamous "they're showing you the door" comic

Unless he's grandstanding, you can learn a lot about a person by the company they keep, whether it's Jason Slaughter simping for Keffals, Randall and Dong-Gone here, and anyone friends with Vito.

You can have that one scummy friend but I wouldn't publicly discuss that fact.

I haven't kept up with his newer stuff, but he had his moments.

The funnier thing about this comic, was that moot turned one of the boards, I think it was /b/, into an edgy vampire themed board. Half the users played into the joke, and another half didn't get it and were full of autistic Stephanie Meyer hating rage.

Every time I can think of a "good" xkcd, it's all from pre-2010.

This one I find relatable because that dream is REAL:

This other one is still true but I get the feeling that he'll simp for media corpos these days:

oh userfriendly was shit, but at least the art was a step above xkcd
This may be unpopular but the stick figures are endearing and a lot of them show poses and other gestures.

Attacking xkcd for its artwork is really missing the point. Pretty much everything wrong with the comic is the writing and subject matter.

Yeah, it's definitely a style and given that number of nerds who can do real art is practically zero, we should give it to him.

It's just that it stopped being nerdy humor and started being "standard liberalist blogshit, but with stick figures" a decade ago.

It's also interesting just how ... incel some of the earliest strips really are, looking back.

Maybe she's the one who's been doing goatkcd (NSFW, obviously) all these years.

xkcd should make a time graph of content creators getting into a relationship and how funny they are, it should make some pretty obvious results.

The comic linked seems to suggest breakup. Probably the wife left after the internet fame run out and Randall, like a good simp, tries to get things back on with "remember I married you when you had cancer". Question is if she left because he was too autistic for her, or just the usual "I could get a better man" thottery.

Oh, shit that does make sense.

Probably a no-fault divorce, but that doesn't explain when and how he lost his mind.

I'll just leave this here.

No joke. No attempt to sound smart of funny. This is literally the author outright demanding you to vote for Hillary fucking Clinton back in 2016.

Fuck xkcd, fuck the author of xkcd, and especially fuck the fans of xkcd. It is the favorite webcomic of every single person that fancies themselves far smarter than what they really are, and aren't shy to show it. Every. Single. One.
