You asked the question and he responded. If you know the answer already then why did you ask? Retard behavior.
I didn't know if trading one coin for something like USDT or another stable coin counts as a taxable event.

Edit: after doing some research it is indeed a taxable event

You only have to pay taxes when you sell crypto for USD, right? Like if I had BTC on an exchange and sold it for an equivalent amount of XMR, that's not a taxable event, correct?
You have to report your income, but how you spend your money is no one else's business.

For anyone sceptic, I used it and works pretty well. The support is very nice as well. There aren't to many resources that guide you through the process, but if someone has questions, I might be able to help!
It looks like I have to already possess some XMR in the Haveno wallet for bond/escrow purposes. Then I issue an offer to trade BTC for XMR, is that right? So I still need someone to sell me XMR privately... which hopefully I can do on BasicSwapDEX (lol, nope,) since robosats delisted Monero...

All this just to get the same anonymity as cash, goddamn. I just want to give null money without getting my ass blasted.

Edit: at this point I'm thinking I'll either just fucking mine the deposit amount I need or ask a kiwi for tree fiddy to get me started.

Not anymore! Now if you want to buy a small amount (up to 2 Monero, or $400 I believe), you do not need an escrow.

If you already have another crypto like BTC you can simply use Trocador though, it's easier to swap with a centralized swap service than with a P2P service like Haveno (Reto Swap).

Thanks for the guide on setting up how to get and use Monero. I previously used Robinshit for the Bitcoin, and paid out the ass in fees to dono to MATI. I'd use rumble still, but they shadowbanned me for a joke about their shit platform last year.
You're welcome, it was made to be as simple and frictionless as possible to enable normies to use it, but if you are not lazy you can get Monero with even lower fees by using a CEX like Kraken instead of using your bank card.
But if you just want $50 to make a donation or buy something, people seem to prefer the simple way of buying it directly on Cake Wallet and spend it right after.

It still demands I have something there.

But it doesn't matter, the Trocador thing just processed for me. Mother Mary and Joseph I have been beating my head against the wall all day to make this happen. It is/was my 'finally gonna make this crypto shit work' day. Should've just asked here first, thanks a bundle.

Where is your how-to guide in this thread? It should be pinned to the first page imo.

I think thats the experience for many people, it was for me at least.

In the US, Exchanging btc for cash or any other crypto is a taxable event. First in first out P+L

How do I stake Monero? I'm thinking of a 90 day stake
You can't, there used to have places where you could yield your Monero and such but they all rugpulled/stopped doing it. It's very complicated even for DeFi to deal with Monero.

Are there ways other than mining, buying, and lending that you can use to accumulate XMR?
Unfortunately no, and even lending you'll have trouble finding a place that does it. That's why most Monero owners simply have it sitting inactive in their wallet. It might feel like a waste but it's pretty healthy for the coin stability and valuation.

cryptocurrencies are currencies, not securities.

Think of investing in XMR like investing in cheese.
Its value might go up slowly, but it's really better used as a method of payment or long term money storage.

The Monero devs have launched a competition to optimize the performance of two (Rust) libraries, "helioselene" and "ec-divisors" being used for FCMP++, a significant upgrade to Monero's privacy that should hopefully be released and hard forked to sometime next year. They're offering up to 350 XMR (currently ~$75,000 USD) to whoever can provide the best optimization(s). The contest will begin accepting submissions on April 28 and will close on June 30.

I think it's very unlikely anyone with the skill set to compete, much less potentially win, will be reading this thread but the Monero community has a hard time getting the word out on things like this to large audiences so I figured I'd help them. They don't have a huge Xitter community like most cryptos of comparable size and one of the devs got his posts deleted when he attempted to advertise it on r/rust and r/cryptocurrency.

Oh fuck our crypto is going to be infiltrated by rust trannies :lossmanjack:

Just under 16,000 XMR was sold/bought via Retoswap last week!!! Thats pretty insane how much its picking up
It's cheap to get into, low fees, anonymous, and on the rise. I would also imagine Coffeezilla not being able to sniff you out using it like he can with other coins is a big selling point.
