$ (XMR) Monero

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Does that mean under €1000 there will still be no KYC for Monero?
I think the EU regulation is that it will not be reported, but KYC is manditory for all crypto-cash exchanges that are "privacy focus" (read they can't compromise the chain, code, or the devs).
It's poorly written regulation in the vein of US PATRIOT to bend people over a barrel when they want to while ignoring their own slush funds.

Minor update because CakeWallet updated its interface and changed the menu names.
I'm still open to suggestions on how to improve it/make it more palatable.

Feds really don't want Monero to be the next thing and I think they're gonna win on that. XMR wont go away but it wont become the next Bitcoin like it deserves even though it's decentralized and anonymous. Convenience wins at the end of the day.
Anyway, I wanted to bring up Haveno. I haven't used it but I heard they're are an open source non-KYC exchange, based on BISQ (which I have used sparingly). I think it allows you to connect with traders through P2P to buy XMR. Either that or they let you buy BTC to then exchange it for XMR. The problem with such exchanges is that it can take time to set up trades, you rely on trust (there's a reputation system albeit), and you need to (obviously) exchange information with the seller/buyer to transfer money. What and how much information depends on the transfer method naturally. I'm sure others have brought this up but in case nobody has here's a starter to the conversation about non-KYC exchanges.
Note: I'm not very experienced, I don't do a lot with crypto. I just researched it out of interest and use it for some basic anonymous payments (VPN, servers, etc).

Retoswap is the only running instance of Haveno currently up and running. So when you see people talking about retoswap, it's Haveno.

It's fiat/crypto for xmr, you do not need to buy btc before xmr. That was Bisq

Sober and honest assessment that I too sometimes have in moments of doubt but then I remember how retarded the powers that be can be, and how many problems will inevitably stem from the total transparency of the btc blockchain. Everyone that has ever bought btc from me for cash for example is kind of an idiot because they had no idea what i did with that btc and what they might end up associating themself with. I think this realization if it ever hits mainstream would be quite bad for bitcoin and quite good for xmr. Remember when someone injected childporn into the btc blockchain jaysus. Open blockchain is a nightmare for security and discrimination. lol. I am probably being an optimist and btc will win out against all odds as it has many times before because its the big chungus and it always will be. These are my two wolves. both are gay. I am gay.

Crossposting from Cybercrime thread, as eXch was a pretty popular Monero exchange.
eXch, anonymous crypto exchange most notably known for laundering money for Lazarus following Bybit hack has had one of their servers seized by BKA and FIOD, with it 34 million euro was confiscated. I do also believe their .net domain has been seized, they had 2 frontend servers on Zare (Switzerland) and OVH (France). The one on OVH has been seized, Zare is still up.

Before the seizure, they announced they will be quitting due to too much attention from LE.

FIOD has showed up on eXch's BitcoinTalk thread to announce it

And a seizure banner is only displayed on the onion domain, which I believe is hosted on their (now seized) OVH server

Why isn't Step 1 just download the official Monero GUI?
Why would we want to make things more complicated and make people download two wallets when one is sufficient?
The reason Cake was chosen for this tutorial is because it can be used on every device, can be used as a personal wallet, and can be used as an instant exchange (buying with a credit card).

Making people install a software that can only be used on a computer is already an issue, then making them use a secondary software/website to buy the crypto is just too much friction. The goal is to make it as simple as possible.
The reason low patience/tech people (old people and women) don't use crypto and Monero is because it seems complex and scary to them, making it simple is the biggest hurdle.

If Null could make the women of KF buy and send crypto he'd make a lot of money.

I use Monero GUI and had a lot of frustrations with it. I have a rather small C drive and didn't use the advanced mode so I don't have to download the 90gb or so of blockchain required to run it in advanced mode. But it still used up maybe 10-15gb, leaving my C with 1gb of space. In order to move it to another drive I had to download the full thing because if you want to move Monero off your C you are obligated to use advanced mode, for what ever reason. Absolutely infuriating.
The download took like 5 days because it was just so slow and I use my phones hotspot as my WIFI. Usually I get download speeds of 20MB/s on steam.

Getting the chain up can be an absolute pain in the cunt but once its running its ok i guess. Documentation is lacking as well for all aspects of xmr from node to chain to just wallets etc. it could really be a lot better and the "marketing" could frankly be a lot more aggressive. It astounds me how small xmr still is since its the only thing atm that does what it does. Funny how good and decent things are usually a little rough around the edges, while the scams are always oh so polished!

we need to be better people. We need to do the work!

Switchzone.io is my go-to trading platform for nft>xmr and vice vers. It compares pretty much all of em? never had any problems there. We need a comprehensive yet simple weekly or at least monthly updated list of:

>important happenings in cybersphere
>chainstatus/walletstatuses
>opsec sitrep
>kyc sitrep

Does it have a minimum buy amount? i.e. "you have to buy at least $50 or fuck off"

It will heavily depend on where you are located and what currency you're paying in.
Monero's legal status is so different from one country to the next that no clear answer can be given.
I just tried where I'm currently located in dollars and the only exchange listed has a minimum of $27.

But when I tried in Euros I got one that had no minimum.

You'll have to try where you are and with the currencies you have to see what's available.
Using a VPN to be elsewhere and have other options works perfectly fine, but I don't know how legal that is.

Is there any point in buying at the moment? I thought it was gonna be back down from the bubble already but it keeps climbing.

On the April 11th, 2025 Mad at the Internet, in response to @Monero Extremist, @Null said someone sent him a way to buy Monero with a credit card without Know Your Customer, but he needed them to send it again. Did Josh ever get that? Or does anyone here know what method he's talking about?

I have also seen that an exchange called Mt Pelerin seems to offer direct bank transfer purchases of other cryptocurrencies without KYC, but I haven't used it yet. Discovered it through Trocador, which the thread trusts from reading, and I think I've used to pay crypto invoices before. If there aren't other no-KYC options, is buying thought Mt Pelerin, then swapping for XMR a decent path?
