If they sperg out and brag loud enough the chinese government may become involved, and we've seen what happens to people that get on their shitlist over the years. The cat torture gang is now global. They operate in the open with impunity. It is false to say that the Chinese internet does not know what goes on on the western internet considering how frequently abuser accounts on Twitter pop up to mock activists. The Chinese government actually does care about how the rest of the world perceives them. Their soft power will take a major hit once their story blows up and they become synonymous with sick fucks who torture cats. The goal of activism right now is to name and shame abusers, report them to their work and school and to pressure the Chinese government to pass animal cruelty laws so this will stop.

Reporting to their work and school isn't going to pressure the government to do shit. This is a case of "small twisted fucking animal abuse clique/"community" going out of their way to harm animals in a manner similar to the zoosadists and monkey torture guys.", if anything if enough people complained the government is probably already working on tracking them, which they seem to be somewhat aware of going by their horribly failed attempts at being sneaky.

You are absolutely right. No one can stand between a kitten and someone who wants to torture it. Even if China passes a law on animal protection (this is extremely unlikely), what kind of punishment can there be? A fine or correctional labor, which will not stop anyone. It is impossible to force insectoids to give up their favorite pastime. And if you cannot stop something terrible, then it is better to just forget about it, ignore it, and try to live your more or less tolerable life more or less well. This is a selfish and at the same time very correct position.
