Some more Turn of the Millennium pop in AMV form, set to anime of the same era...

Embrace the Cringe!

Didn't they have a song about jizzing in your sleep?
I forgot there was a video for this, and wow:

For those that aren't familiar with them, the only thing hotter than boy bands in 2000 were the newly popular reality TV shows like Survivor and Big Brother. Some genius thought to himself "what if there was a reality show... about putting together a boy band??" The rest is history!

I just want to say the late 90s ended culturally in 2001 after a certain incident involving planes and towers. Until that point the 90s were getting more upbeat and less grungey depressed. It was all American Pie and Austin Powers. Things developed to be a lot more cynical and dark shortly after (outside of Nu Metal that was already crawling in rusty meat and dog shit).
2001
What a fucking time to be alive.

and that's one of the weaker songs on the album.

2002

Remember when These two fooled everyone that they were innocent and wholesome and the rebel on the industry was Arvril because of those whore skater shoes.

Picked that one wrong, good lord what a trainwreck those years were.

I remember that era with absolute horror. The late '90s was when record companies shifted their marketing away from late teens (17+) or college-aged adults towards almost exclusively tween/teen girls and all their gay friends. In the past, MTV would air music videos for genuinely interesting alternative acts. Even the poppier/mainstream alt bands were worth listening to. Once "Genie in a Bottle" and "Hit Me Baby One More Time" became a thing, the rest was history.

Nah nigger you got it wrong. That was a defining era of pop music. Without it, we'd still be listening to depressing grunge shit and wannabe gangsta rap. Because god forbid we get something upbeat and happy and carefree in our lives.

2001
Teenage angst

Only remember them as a one-hit wonder for some sappy ballad they did. Glad to see they have better.

Britney Spears - I'm a Slave 4 U

Oof I did not care for her self-titled 3rd album era. Her first 2 albums were so good and then... things changed. Blame the plane crashes. Also, her sales massively declined because radio stations had some kinda embargo on playing her... something to do with her being the spokeswoman of Pepsi at the time, idk.

2002
This shit really captures the times for me.
Pure sex

And now the frontman is a borderline lolcow.

I always thought this song was an absolute banger as a kid and this was long before Beyonce became miss Black Nationalist.

Odd how that worked out... they chose a light-skinned very mixed looking woman to be oggled at by fat dark af sheboons with nappy hair and wide noses that look nothing like her.

Then again Beyonce always did nothing except dick-ride the latest trend. That's how she's always been. She's riding another trend dick right now, nothing more. And you know if she didn't do it, her fans would "cancel" her, so she's obligated.

Neil Cicierega - Alanis

Damn what a troll.

Not exactly. Britney and Xtina were already jumping on the bad girl whoreslut look bandwagon by that point- Britney with her 3rd album the year prior, and Xtina that year with her album. By comparison, Avril was still underage at that point anyhow.

I am a Rockist at heart, so I'd rather listen to the worst Rock band than the best Pop act especially from that era. Also, early to mid '90s Rap is God-tier.

Because god forbid we get something upbeat and happy and carefree in our lives.
If it turns your society gay, then yes, it's a problem.

Poptimism is cowardice.
