Yaniv vs. the Sikh community - Can you hear the kirpans being sharpened in the night?

Also, the turban is not one of the 'five K's' required to be kept by the Khalsa, only the uncut hair and beard is. The turban, as noted above, is a convenience used to keep all that hair in a neat place. It's a cultural artifact, not a religious one. Sikhs could just as easily keep their hair in a long ponytail, or a braided queue the way the Chinese used to a couple hundred years ago. They get butthurt about the turban because its what they are used to, and like every other human on earth they like what they are used to.

If this derails any further into "Why all religions are for dummies and only atheists are A++++ smartbois" territory I'm having God send it off to Spergatory.

:neckbeard:

If you're referring to me, I'm not saying all religions are for dummies. I can see totally why they exist. Many people want to be connected to a God they believe in if only for birth, marriage, sickness and death rites, others seek more. Atheists insisting they have the one true path is itself exceptionalism.

What I am saying is that just because Jonboy singled out Sikhs doesn't mean that the Sikh religion is above scrutiny as to its inconsistencies. . I brought other religions into it to illustrate that it's not just them, all religions have a degree of this.

ms of forbidding Halal, I get that. The slaughter techniques are controversial, and for good reason. They could be sanctioned under animal cruelty if not for the exemption. Same with Kosher. The butchering requirements for both are very involved, and seem largely to serve the purpose of employing religious officials. For many smaller abbatoirs the cost of providing Halal and Kosher can't be offset by a cost increase...but it is significantly more costly to perform. Factory operations I'm not sure, but small producers are not taking in huge profits as it is. Unless they have a ready market, a large population essentially demanding kosher or Halal, it's not feasible.

Most food animals ARE killed by severing their throat/letting them bleed out as halal/kosher prescribes: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/may/08/what-does-halal-method-animal-slaughter-involve

This article has to do with halal abbatoirs, but stunning (captive bolt, electrified plate, etc.) prior to killing by cutting the throat is SOP in most slaughterhouses, halal/kosher or not.

Sikhs were involved in a lot of violence in 1980s India, even killing the prime minister in 1984. They're just not associated with terrorism nowadays because they don't have anywhere near as many violent fundamentalists as Islam does, especially outside India.

Yaniv obviously doesn't know about any of this and is just ignorantly prejudiced.
Canada used to support the Khalistan movement, which India did not like at all. However, since the 1990s the Khalistan movement has really quoted down to almost nothing, and India’s priorities turned to Kashmir culminating in the Kargill crisis (Kashmir borders Punjab).

You may want to talk to a slaughterhouse owner...not on the guardian's record. Captive bolts are not intended to stun.

The throat slitting is actually the least annoying/expensive part of Halal/Kosher certification. It's quite involved.

Last post on this, the internet is pretty polluted with inaccuracy about where food comes from. Go to a slaughterhouse, not a factory one.
