So I heard there was a Mother Direct today, like a Nintendo direct but for Earthbound fan games and such. Out of curiousity I searched "mother direct" on twitter and sorted by latest to see if there was anything interesting. Lo and behold:

So what game could he be talking about? I watched the entire direct and found this

and there are no mentions of any other games elsewhere in the direct. Plus if you search "from:kouneyagami yiik" on twitter you'll see he's crying about "yiik misinfo" and apparently makes music for the game:

I'm gonna go on a limb and say that he doesn't want to say "Oneyplays bad" but still wants to complain about them making fun of YIIK since those are terms popularized by them, that or he doesn't realize it's from oneyplays and assumed it was the alt right trollz
Either way he's being a cunt for a bad game AND in his bio he considers himself an asexual and pansexual at the same time, what a mess

There is a part on Yiik where the 2 black party members bitch about missing white girl syndrome or whatever, and how their little brother (who is Alex on another universe/timeline, don't ask) dissapeared and how no one gave a shit because he was black and how their parents are actually working for the government. Yiik is slightly left leaning, but most of the people it was meant to pander to dropped it when they learned about the character that is just Elisa Lam, the unitentionally insensitive Satoru Iwata easter egg, or the crow character accidentally misgendering trannies or someshit that was patched out of the game.

You're right and the dev seems to have had an obsession/fetish for Elisa Lam.

I think how they handled Rory and the suicide thing was also a big complaint against it. Mental health and all that.

That reminds me of Uricksaladbar's suggesting that Claudio or the camera guy would be better alternatives to Alex as protagonist.
I was thinking of trimming down Rory's goose chase involving the sister's grave and if the Camera guy was the protagonist include Sherlock Holmes as an imaginary friend to help him think more logically in order to help him ascend spiritually or whatever.

It's not surprising that a 19 year old troon would have seen YIIK described that way, but it would also not be surprising if they hadn't but instead were just exaggerating the criticism they had seen, because of that same impulse. It's bullshit no matter what, but it's not like I'd trust this 'Cheryl' to be honest either.

Rory as an antagonist being driven partly made by exposure to the Soul Space would have been interesting too.

Honestly, the whole game needs a lot of trimming considering almost none of it had a reason to be there. The exploring town and sewer with Rory was pointless because it wasn’t actually about the main plot, so it didn’t need to go on nearly as long as it did, the hunt for the record meant nothing other than make Alex look like he’s illiterate, so that could have been heavily cut to get to Vella’s mind faster, the Essentia dungeon was pointless because it was all just one big massive lie/misdirection, the “spend a month training” was pointless because it was an unwinnable boss fight, floating in Soul Space took too long since all it had was a Panda scene and the planet of Alexs, the final boss is also unwinable...

At the beginning of the game, in the original version- we're talking at launch- the crow at the beginning of the game asks your name, and originally asked something along the lines of "what was the name that your parents gave you?" It was meant to be a funny little "haha but no please put your real name in the game," but some troon saw it, flipped out and yelled, and the rest is history.

Allanson went on to say in the past few months that that particular kerfuffle blindsided him, and killed most of their possible post-launch merchandise deals. You can say a lot of things about the game and it's developers, but they definitely didn't deserve that.

TL;DW when Alex sees Sammy get snatched for the first time and then later when he sees her get snatched on the video and he isn't there, that's the first sign that his reality is breaking and he's entering his mind dungeon? And it isn't just lazy writing?

The more I try to understand YIIK the more I understand why people hate it so much. It thinks its all fancy and complicated but the result is a jumbled mess that cant be understood. Plenty other games and shows pull off complicated reality breaking plots that are far better conveyed than whatever the Two Brothers shat out and never bothered to revise. No wonder people say it's lazy writing, it's such a high IQ writing that it wraps back around to being shitty.

Anyway I haven't seen this hellkrai dude before, looking at his Youtube hes made several other videos about the game and has apparently speedrunned it

His defense is "Anyone could have written that in the AMA, since the writer claims he doesn't use reddit." and "The elevator scene is similar, but it's not the same." While technically true, it's a pretty flimsy defense. Andrew Allanson WAS quoted in an interview with Waypoint as saying:


“The death of Elisa Lam has bothered me since it happened,” said Ackk Studios co-founder Andrew Allanson, “I feel like there still hasn’t been a great official story about her… I remember on local news they reported it from the gross out angle because people drank water that a corpse had been floating in. That’s unfortunate, but what about the poor girl who died? It’s easy to say she was off her meds, but why can’t people think a bit more about her as a person?”

The body in the water tower being drank is also a moment in the game that one of the characters brings up, the elevator scene with Sammy is from the exact same camera POV as the Elisa Lam video with some of the movements mirrored and the creator admits it was "inspired" by cases "like hers".
But okay yeah it's not her. If you believe that then I have a short story to sell you about a woman named Lizzy Tall, aka the Black Daisy who was found bisected in a vacant lot in LA and the murderer was never caught. Totally original and not at all based on anything in reality, although I admit it may have been inspired by some unsolved case or another that has lived in the public consciousness for years.

I admit to only having watched playthroughs but no matter what kind of shitty monologue they give at the end of the game it doesn't change the fact that it's explicitly said that Sammy is Vella is Essientia 2k etc etc and that they all love Alex, to the point where Vella and Essientia are giggling about sharing sexy (gross) thoughts about Alex. There's a whole section where alternate versions talk about how their lives revolve around Alex, why would Sammy be any different? Especially given how HE obsessed about her throughout the game? (until he conveniently forgets about her when other love interests arise)

Also learn your RPG elements, Allason, Electricity beats water but nice try.

This is why this topic legit makes me MATI in the stupidest way; the writer was wrong and like a small child calls everyone else stupid while blatantly lying. I really have to stop checking this thread.
That said the new TF2 Emporium "Hipster Scout" did make me laugh:
