you ever wonder about people who work longterm at high turnover jobs? - the kind where half the people quit a month after training.

I’ve been working at the same white collar place for 15 years (different positions, some promotions, but essentially the same job). Other people come and go (average is 2-3 years). It’s come to the point that I hardly put an effort to go beyond good acquaintances/contacts rather than friends because I know that they’ll fuck off in a year.

I mostly stick around because the pay is very decent (although not top tier for my area of expertise), the generous benefits and seniority perks (I’ve got so many vacation days per fiscal year, you have no idea).

Not glamorous but it got me a car, a house and feeds my family while granting me some extra cash for small fun expenses. Sure I can’t afford to go on trips (the kids will never see Disneyland) but the stability and low effort is worth it. I don’t care about networking and moving to a different city every year.
