So we have heard some bad rep about people of much younger generations. Do you really think it's going downhill? Or is it not that bad as we have thought? Discuss.

In some senses, yes, but it's always important to remember that there's always tension between older and younger generations.

Eh. I'm on my phone so I'm going to keep this short for now:
I think with every generation, the one or two that come before it are resentful, largely thanks to progress (technology, attitudes, ideals).

This happens to every generation. The one before believes life was swell the way it was, and that the next gen is going to the dogs. It's always been like that.

I think the next generation is going to be highly intelligent, refined, and empathetic, and the ones saying the newer generations are only going to get worse and worse are a bunch of immature shits that don't like change. Sorry, but it's true, the 90's, 80's, 70's, etc., suck much more than the future will. Honestly, who wants to live in a decade where DOMA is constitutional and police officers beat men of color for literally no reason? That sounds like garbage, and it makes the people who lived in that decade sound like garbage.

My generation in a nutshell.
Also, were there this many teen moms in the 80's and 90's?

Yes. They were often thrown out on the streets by their good Christian parents, if not killed outright. :(

Every generation would force the next to stop progressing and live exactly like their parents if they could.

Well, that's depressing.

Yeah, this. The internet didn't exist back then, so things like teen moms, footage of homeless guys being beaten by cops, and indie bands remained out of the public's view, and their issues remained taboo and unsolved.

And yeah, people seem to be scared of progress despite the fact that it's pretty damn obvious that change is necessary if we want to survive at this point. Frankly, I don't care what kind of stupid things kids do because they're kids and they're going to learn some day. What does disturb me is when grown ass men and women refuse to acknowledge that living in an era with so much technology and diminishing homophobic and xenophobic stances, and that they'd rather prefer things to be like they were in "their time," usually because they're a bunch of manchildren who don't want to grow up. You don't have to like shitty memes and pop music to enjoy this era.

I believe a disturbing trend in younger people is to place rights above logic, hearts above minds, and active liberty over individual liberties. Too much of the next generation places an inordinate attention on "rights", considering neither the practicality of granting those rights nor the responsibilities each of those rights will entail. This leads to an infuriating situation where every little thing you do is "wrong" and "offensive" to even the most minute, insignificant, and nonsensical of groups.

A brief yet effective summary of the major problem is the formulation of the far-left concept of "privilege", and feeling guilty over every little thing you have better than your neighbor. To put it bluntly, the next generation is "too nice", and I fear that America will eventually change to the point where everything we hold dear no longer exists and everything is upheaved to make active accomidations for the five people who believe they're giraffes stuck in a human body. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that this is far-left equivalent of Creationism; an ideology radically valuing how one merely feels over what the facts are.

There is an inordinate focus on radical equality where it cannot rationally be achieved given the constraints of economics, nature, and physics. The solution to this, of course, is a return to the past ideology of granting rights based on their scientifically-proven benefit to society, proof that the minority in question *actually exists*, and satisfaction of the greatest good for the greatest number of people. Without that, you just get a world where people are berated for things like getting your hair done, as that "flaunts" your "non-bald privilege".

"When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly disrespectful and impatient of restraint".
Hesiod, 8th century BC

"What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?"
Plato, 4th Century BC

"The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint... As for the girls, they are forward, immodest and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress."

I'm just old enough to remember when all it took to get out of a murder charge if you were a man who killed another man was "He came onto me." Instant acquittal.

Not to mention that gay sex was illegal until only a few years ago. And men went to prison for years for it (strangely enough lesbians usually didn't).

Yes, sometimes we all miss things from our childhood and look back on it as the good old days. But that's only because we were much less aware of the world at large. Things like teen moms happened all the time back then too, it just wasn't talked about. At best a girl would mysteriously disappear for a while, and no one would admit her parents had taken her to get a back-alley abortion whether she wanted it or not.

That's sufficient evidence to say every generation fears the generation that will succeed it.

The main issue with the current "new generation" is that their parents are of my generation; the ADD generation.
We were raised to believe that anything that's wrong with us was in fact due to some unseen illness, as our parents pretty much drilled this into our heads our whole life.
This results in too many special snowflake children, many of whom are mis-diagnosed as Asperger's; when in reality they've just never been taught proper social skills or manners.

Also, access to technology highlights the big issue with the kids today.
They're all fucking each other from age 8 and up it seems, and taking videos of it.
To me, at least, those three things were VERY taboo to even talk about, much less do.
Sure, we had a few sluts in my middle school, but it wasn't EVERY GIRL!

Before that it was Communist infiltration that was to blame for kids talking back to their parents. And before that it was demonic possession. Every generation looks for an excuse for why the next isn't the perfect little clones they want them to be.

It's not every girl, you're only seeing a tiny handful out of millions.

Still in the minority when you factor in the whole population of young girls. Plus I'd bet a lot of them are making it up. I know when I was young me and all me friends had tons of sex all the time if you believed us, when in reality we had never even seen a real vagina or breast.

“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”
Socrates, 4th Century BC

By the way, teen pregnancy hit a historic low not too long ago.
