What was your favorite game released this year?

Most of the gaming time I had this year was spent on MMOs. The only new release games I played in 2022 were Ai: The Somnium Files Nirvana Initiative and Return to Monkey Island. Both were disappointing but still worth playing. Also, Trails from Zero, but I don't consider that a 2022 game. Still have a handful of 2022 releases in my backlog that I'd like to get around to playing some day soon. I miss being NEET.

You guys?

I played the shit out of Mario Kart 8 and all the new tracks they have been releasing. Played a lot of Kart anyway but the whole "doubling the size of the game" was a great gift.

But that doesn't count I guess.

Kirby was fun!

Prodeus!
That game was really good, it might seem like boomer shooter Doom thing but it's like a boomer shooter Quake thing(as seen at the end) with a tinge of Metroidvania(when going back to older levels with new abilites and weapons to sweep up collectibles/secrets without having to play the same level again). It's really good.
I was procrastinating and taking my time, pausing the game for phone calls etc. but I had logged 13 hours according to Gamepass when finishing the campaign and my individual play sessions were longer than with Elden Ring.

Kirby was fun!
The new Kirby was probably my favorite 2022 game.
Splatoon 3 is a ton of fun too but it's not my game of the year.
Came here to say the same thing. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the only new game I've played this year, but it was a fun game and definitely one of the best games released this year.

I forgot about Kirby. Still need to pick that game up. Did anyone play the new Star Ocean? Was it good?

Oh yeah! How was that version? Did they add actual new stuff?
the game looked like the og 2013 version but slightly squeakier
it added a new narrative about the devs being halfassed at new content so the narrator does funny business
also there were different versions of every ending and an artsy sequence about timetravel
same antics as the original but there was no ending that tied the new content together which sucked
the first time i launched the game i noclipped through the floor in the first new map and i thought it was part of the game for a few seconds

Can't decide between these three because I enjoyed them equally on Switch:
-Yomawari 3
-Nier Automata
-Live a Evil
Honorable mentions to Signalis, TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Xenoblade 3, Atelier Sophie 2, Kiki Kaikai Kuro Manto no Nazo and GrimGrimoire OnceMore.
Earth Defense Force 6 would have been easily my GOTY 2022 if I had the proper console system for it however

Elden Ring no fucking contest. Second that came out this year Live a Live, first time playing it full and loved it. Digimon Survive was the other one I played a lot and was fine, but only anime fans apply.

That I played this year even if not released, Inscryption was probably my second favorite that I played in 2022, a very welcome surprise. Like a Dragon was also a very good time, looking forward to how Yakuza goes forward. Rest was much older games or emulated stuff.

Nobody would think you were being ironic if you just said Elden Ring. It's a great game and everyone liked it.

I didn't. I bounced off somewhere around the swamp because I didn't like how open it was, and my go-to character for Soulsborne being a sword and board didn't help.
