YouTube on Wednesday announced a new tool that will allow advertisers to use Google’s Gemini AI model to target ads to viewers when they are most engaged with a video.

The artificial intelligence feature, called “Peak Points,” identifies times when videos receive elevated levels of viewer attention and packages ads to be placed after those moments. Peak Points has the potential to enable more impressions and a higher click-through rate on YouTube, a primary metric that determines how creators earn money on the video platform.

YouTube said the AI model is trained by analyzing video elements such as frames and transcripts. Peak Points is currently in a pilot program and will be rolling out over the rest of the year.

The video service announced Peak Points at its YouTube Brandcast event in New York. Besides Peak Points, YouTube made other announcements geared toward advertisers. With Peak Points, Google is taking another step in monetizing AI at a time when many in Silicon Valley are prioritizing products over safety.

Ever go to Youtube with your adblocker off? It's psychotic. I had no idea how bad it had gotten until they broke something with the blocker I used a few months ago and I had to switch it out. If there were no way to block ads there I simply wouldn't use the site because the ads comprehensively infest the user experience, they're brutally obtrusive. I would rather find entertainment watching the drying of paint on the wall and listening to the rattle of manhole covers from the street.
Honestly it's most of the Internet. I've no idea how people use it without ad block

Really? This is the definition of AI now? "We looked at when viewers watch the video the most!" Pajeet, that's just called a histogram!
Yeah and the playback progress bar already had one on it for a few years showing you the most replayed parts of a video, now they are slapping a.i on it to make it shiny and new and thought provoking. Worst part is they stole the idea from sponsor block.

I like how they announce this separately on a blog with no like bar on it.

On the YouTuber insider video though...

I'm not really sure who's botting who here.

I always assumed companies wanted their brands to have positive associations.
No, brands are the equivalent of toddlers shrieking at the top of their lungs for attention. They don't care how they get it but they feel they're entitled to your undivided attention and they'll do anything to get it.

It's a case of shareholders being clueless retards wanting to hear the CEO and executives talk about AI because every other company is doing it too, so a lot of these tech companies are announcing completely pointless non-changes that have AI slapped on there somewhere. We all know it's smoke and mirrors but the retarded shareholders don't.
"I should be able to use a service for free and any company that tries to monetize said service should be shot in the back execution style"
When we're talking about shitty jeet CEOs that can only extract value from a company by making the product shittier, on purpose, forcing you to pay to unshittify something, and then shoving more ads everywhere: yes.

they need AI for this? shouldnt this have been possible with a simple script since youtube started?
X highest peaks of watched segments in the last 24h = ad break spots...

Im pretty sure our deer leader will solve this issue with 3 lines of code once ads are rolled out on kiwifarms

the article doesnt sound like they use AI to predict those peaks when uploading a video.
