Here's Nick's response to John Swan before he purges his tweets. I like the little shade he throws at Jayden too, like " John you fucked up, you don't want to be a loser like Jayden do you?"
"
"the impact of John's lie as reassuring people's confirmation bias. I think he was disliked for a long time by a lot of youtubers behind the scenes"
Unless we're talking Suzy Lu, most of the community and public were on John's side when that drama happened. It wasn't until it came out that he did lie and was going to use his friends to manipulate the drama - Heck, I remember he gloated about how much growth he was getting - Not helped that Dream's way about this was... Really dumb.
Also, in case DeOrio's lurking - Heya Nicholas - I hope you're having a stupendous day. Hey, if you do respond to this, would you mind answering who the 'usual suspects' are?
That aside, I actually do agree with Nick here. As I said in a previous post, when you go away from youtube for so long, the algorithm is gonna kick you in the nutsack - And the longer you do it, the longer it's gonna have an impact. The only way to keep this from happening is to have a means of actually keeping up engagement with your audience.
Going off the rails of commentary, but a video game analyst/animator that I really enjoy Uricksaladbar (check out his stuff, it's sweet and has some decent art) takes a month or two with his videos - But he's active with his community posts, showing off art, he's streaming on twitch to keep up with his audience, and as such, makes sure that his audience is still engaging with him on some level.
Throw in the fact let's take a look at John's content - Because just 'putting out a banger' isn't gonna cut it.
If you take a look at his most viewed videos - They thrive on trending topics and drama, more specifically, the Suzy Lu Drama - Let's face it, that was how John was able to really get his name out there, because it was a big youtuber abusing a system against a smaller youtuber (If I recall, John didn't even have 10k subs at the time) you had this underdog vibe going on - And everyone wants to root for the underdog.
The same goes with Chris Hansen and Deji - It's a fun story ain't it? You've got this small, up and coming youtuber who was unjustly slapped by some reaction channel bitch with a huge forehead (which, remember, not a lot of people care for Reactors, especially in this day and age) going after 1) the former face of Justice involving minors who's essentially fallen from grace and 2) going after the prissy whiny little brother of KSI who was so chicken shit that he backed off from fighting the Paul brothers with his older bro who gave him that success in the first place - So you got yourself a combination of timely drama, hot off the presses material, and at the same time, low hanging fruit that the unwashed masses are willing to sink their teeth into.
It's a great combination to farm not only subs, but also views too - It's essentially the same thing that hack Prison Mate Luke did, despite the piss poor content he put out.
However, that's also the problem.
When you build your channel upon hot iron, it's gonna cool down eventually - and unless you're willing to temper your channel like a piece of metal in the forge and refining it, it's gonna get messy. John was on fire, and then this happened.
And while his views aren't terrible for his size, hell, considering EVERYTHING, these are actually pretty good numbers considering the hiatus and drama - he's gonna need a hail mary pass in order to get this channel back the way it was.
Like... Maybe... Some new drama that may spring up. Hell, I remember a few pages back, John said he was working on a Creepshow Art video - unless he's got an edge on it like Thumin did (and I hate to even give her credit on this) by claiming she was close with Creepshow or had a personal experience with her - That video ain't gonna do so well.
