I’ve been so burnt out on commentary lately. I don’t fault people for streaming instead of making anything interesting, it’s printing money with way less effort. Can’t really get mad at people taking the smarter route. Just wish people still made videos. I’m not even asking for anything as edgy as Bigbunjee, just a solid 15-30 minute video with jokes.
I used to watch commentary channels, but after BigBunjee got banned, I pretty much tuned out. He was the first interesting commentary channel in a long time that made content that wasn't "just insert popular YouTuber situations is crazy," and he didn't just pump out 100-plus videos of stream clip slop covering the "popular YouTuber situation." He made quality, funny videos that you actually remembered after clicking off of them. Now commentary is basically just brain rot.
And I know the defense there is “no one watches those”/“I get better numbers on streams” I know. I get it.
It’s like youtube is turning into netflix, where they know you aren’t fully paying attention so they pad the thing that could have been 45 minutes into a 5 hour slog of useless and repeated information. I think most streamers have/will admit that their content is mostly background noise.
This is the sad part about YouTube now: it's basically slop for people to listen to in the background, while the people who actually paid attention to videos and sat down and treated it like, you know, watching a video rather than listening to a fat man rambling in the background are slowly dying out. YouTube has basically run off every interesting YouTuber, and every interesting YouTuber who isn't banned has had issues with censorship. Most new content today is completely forgettable and replaceable. Will anybody remember Nick Doreo's latest stream in 3 years? Probably not.
Is anyone going back to rewatch random Chud or Nick streams? I did that for After Hours, but that was because shit happened on After Hours. I think the most memorable things to happen in recent commentary memory were mama max and bowblax, and wow, look at that, it’s topics where people streamed together or made videos.
Exactly, people remembered the streams where stuff happened. I remember I looked forward to Augie's streams and trolling his chat, and even when I disagreed with his takes, I still enjoyed watching his videos. Now I can't even keep up with commentary drama anymore, and if you want to find the origins of the drama, it's probably buried under 100 videos of "insert-person-situationIs crazy;" it's just not worth my time anymore. I already have politics to keep up with; commentary stuff just doesn't go into my daily news diet anymore. It's the sad but true reality of the state of modern YouTube.
I know they say that community drama was the shit everyone hated about being in commentary, but it was the most memorable stuff. It’s the things people still reference and look back at.
Exactly, the drama made the commentary community interesting; without it, all you have is hollow, ad revenue-generating slop.
Who’s even here anymore? Just look at this thread over the last 1.5 years. The number of people has just been dwindling. Tom jumped ship, Tipster is gay, Bowblax is even worse, Augie is gone again, the small spergs aren’t really in play without an after hours freak show to platform them, Muta is Indian, etc
When Turkey Tom's channel transitioned from the quality video essay guy who talked about Kiwi Farms stuff to the slop generator machine that's become indistinguishable from AI, that's when the commentary community started to change. The tipster drama was funny, but after the entire commentary community unraveled with Augie leaving, we were left with Mutahar turkey tom and other slop generators who make pointless content designed to waste your time. No more funny drama, just pure pointless slop.
Right now it’s basically just Nick, Chud, and Tommy.
and they could all jump off a bridge, and it would be more entertaining than their current streams
The audience all will eventually grow up and realize these people are all shit then leave them.
This is exactly what happened to me. I grew out of the commentary community, and it didn't change to accommodate the aging audience members like myself.
You are witnessing in real time commentary dying again.
Exactly, the slop machine can't continue forever, especially when the audience will eventually move over to TikTok slop and other competing slop.
They have gotten lazy, repetitive, and boring, and the only reason to watch now is them slap fighting into ilrelevancy.
Even then, their slap fighting has become lazy, repetitive, and boring slop. There's practically no reason to watch commentary channels anymore; the community is dying a slow, sad death.
He was at first if not pro gamergate, at least not against it.
Then he had a spergout on a convention because some tranny freaked out bc an attended asked the panel whether "traps are gay". He was responsible for removing that attendee from the convention bc tranny cried
So basically it's the classic story of an anti-woke guy who becomes popular and then sells out and goes woke.
