Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

at least tv ads didn't pop up every 5 min, they bunched up their shit so you could go do something else for like 5 min.
Even then, some TV ads were memorable, had catchy tunes, and/or had products people actually would WANT to buy.

tv ads now are just fucking boring and bland unless you're 5 years old watching Nickelodeon or something and an ad for a new toy shows up.

TV ads are also now a humiliation ritual.

Every couple is interracial, usually a non with a white woman. White men are only portrayed as soyface buffoons. Otherwise it's just wall-to-wall POCs astroturfed as your everyday countrymen.

I don't know what the Pajeets did but I am once again now getting Ads on Brave when I have Shields up.

Fuck Jeets. Roundhouse Jeets into the Trashcan, Launch Jeets into the Sun
Trannyfox/Librewolf + Ublock Orgin is the best combo. I've never had any problems with ads on Youtube even during the recent Adblock war last year

how bloated the Youtube website is
Back in the early '00s, I made this one HTM page with Micro$oft Word, with just some text and images. It was this bloated monstrosity of a code. Also it only worked right in Internet Exploder Explorer. Remade it in Notepad. A fraction of the size, and it worked on any browser. Seems YT is made like that former: using some crappy design software.

Is anyone else missing the miniplayer button when using youtube premium?
screen.webp

It's gone. When using a normal account or logging out, the miniplayer button reappears.

Well, it's over. Brave is now serving ads on Youtube.

What now? 😩
YT has been acting shitty for days, I thought it was just me.

Sometimes a video wont load and the page is just blank, sometimes it starts an ad (1 out of 10 times). In both cases refreshing fixes it - but its incredibly fucking annoying. Is this happening to everyone now?

Yup, been happening to me over the last week.

I get the delayed start (play video, it pretends to buffer for 5-10 sec, then starts) fairly often now, but nothing else. The new rounded UI sometimes loads and sometimes it doesn't. Firefox 140, uBlock, VPN, Windows 10.

Freetube is pulling the same crap. If you try to skip ahead, you'll encounter a situation where the video will freeze but the sound will still play

YouTube is now adding AI age verification. It’ll look at what kind of videos you’re watching, not the age you say you are. If you’re the victim of a false positive, cough up that Govt ID or Credit Card.

We're extending our existing built-in protections to more US teens on YouTube, using machine learning age estimation.

People come to YouTube to learn and be entertained. This is true even for the youngest audiences, and it's why we remain laser focused on making sure they have a safe and age appropriate experience. Over 10 years ago we launched YouTube Kids, and 4 years ago implemented supervised accounts for pre-teens and teens.

Back in February, we shared that we would soon introduce technology that would distinguish between younger viewers and adults to help provide the best and most age appropriate experiences and protections. Over the next few weeks, we’ll begin to roll out machine learning to a small set of users in the US to estimate their age, so that teens are treated as teens and adults as adults. We’ll closely monitor this before we roll it out more widely. This technology will allow us to infer a user’s age and then use that signal, regardless of the birthday in the account, to deliver our age-appropriate product experiences and protections. We’ve used this approach in other markets for some time, where it is working well. We are now bringing it to the US, and as we make progress we’ll roll it out in other markets. We will closely monitor the user experience, and partner with Creators to ensure that the entire ecosystem benefits from this update.

Here’s how it works

We will use AI to interpret a variety of signals that help us to determine whether a user is over or under 18. These signals include the types of videos a user is searching for, the categories of videos they have watched, or the longevity of the account.

When the system identifies a teen user, we’ll automatically apply our age-appropriate experiences and protections, including:

  • disabling personalized advertising
  • turning on digital wellbeing tools
  • adding safeguards to recommendations, including limiting repetitive views of some kinds of content
If the system incorrectly estimates a user to be under 18, they will have the option to verify that they are 18 or over, such as using a credit card or a government ID. We will only allow users who have been inferred or verified as over 18 to view age-restricted content that may be inappropriate for younger users.

Our continuing work to support kids, teens and families

YouTube was one of the first platforms to offer experiences designed specifically for young people, and we’re proud to again be at the forefront of introducing technology that allows us to deliver safety protections while preserving teen privacy. Families trust YouTube to provide a safe and enriching experience, and we’ll continue to invest to protect their ability to explore safely online.

That's a new level of shitty. Looks like you have a way in if you have a really old Google account, but then the activity is tied to that account. Of course, the war on downloaders, Grayjay, etc. will only escalate.
