Literally none of them were in the right. Even Cicero was propping up an ineffectual Republic that failed to serve people.

People blame the Populists for killing the Republic, but they had legitimate grievances and it was the conservative Optimates who first killed the Republic with Sulla.

I'm of the autistic belief that everyone who fought Caesar, killed Caesar and tried to kill Caesar's legacy are the people who truly killed the republic. How is Caesar different from Sula? The answer is that Sula didn't get assassinated and as such didn't generate a retarded succession war. Had Caesar lived he may have gracefully walked out. But even if he didn't a long period of Caesar would be easy to contrast against the ideal of the republic and allow public support to sprout naturally. The birth of the Roman republic was seen as sacred to the Romans as such it's not a hard sell if you aren't actively destroying your nation.

The fundamental issue was Roman culture itself. The culture of patronage that made men loyal to other men instead of their state. A culture so deep rooted that we still see it in Roman Catholicism with its bureaucracy of saints on the way to God.

Except Saints are a thing in all branches of Christianity, even those that developed outside the Roman Empire's cultural boundaries. Men being loyal to other men is just the nature of the Classical era. It's why the Ptolemaic period was a thing. And Rome it's self had a better sense of worth for the collective state than other developed cultures of the time. Greeks might be loyal to a polis but they weren't loyal to the Greek world. While Persians didn't even care.

Nationalism is just a concept that developed later. You did have populations that saw themselves as different from other populations and even that they should be under different governances. But it was more important to what clan/family/tribe you belonged than the broader group and easier for a bigger group to conquer your land and just boss you around for a few centuries. Attempts at single national entities pre modern era were generally a mess. You had the Dacians which formed under a unified state once as a defensive measure against the Romans during the time of Caesar. But when Caesar died the external threat disappeared and internal strife lead to the killing of the king and splitting of the kingdom.
If I was to make a theory as to why. It's because during the middle ages languages became more standardized as a result of the church and most importantly this wasn't just written language but spoken as well. The church it's self often split along those language lines at least in internal administration if not outright line drawing. Combined with the church trying to reduce inbreeding thus reducing the tribe/clan/family ties and broadening them to the nation. And you have a good environment for creating a nation. There are more factors like the plague, developments in agriculture that reduced the number of people that had to work the field thus allowing them to spend time on cultural pursuits or just interacting more with each other, creation of hard borders paired with surveying and cartography as real fields and ledger keeping.

There was one part I was prepared for a reference to the Russo-Ukro war when Tsar Alexander I was being based as usual and wanted to march his armies into Spain to put a revolution down, but he didn't make it.

Possible redemption arc after describing literally ancient cities as walkable and making a whole video on work shifts?

I haven't finished it yet, but he's already being a faggot about slavery again by the 30 minute mark. It's just as bad as usual, Metternich is apparently stupid for not foreseeing German autism one decade in the future and Alexander I is nuts, however the Brit PM of all people is a reasonable, very nice person acting from the good will of his heart, even though he later manipulates the liberals and conservatives in his own video. And after that goes on to manipulate South America. I can't trust him if his portrayal is going to be this schizophrenic and non-sensical.

I checked out at that part because I was taught what the Monroe Doctrine was in high school, so none of it was news to me. What the fuck was that bit about? Why should Americans be ignorant to their own history? And of course, I haven't seen an American passionate for hot-dogs anywhere, I get the impression that over there its rancid fast food made with used water by tired old street vendors.

The video's only good thing is that it introduces the people behind historical events, which to someone who isn't invested in that period of history like me is actually useful. But unlike previous videos its 42 minutes of nothing, this could have been condensed into 30 minutes at worst and 10 minutes at best.

PIEs are such an interesting topic that unfortunately get overshadowed by retards who insert race nonsense (Either saying it's all a white supremacist hoax or the esoteric types who make Himler sound sane). Really recommend 'The Horse The Wheel and Language' to anyone interested in the topic. It's especially interesting when considering that the languages could have spread not by a conquering population but by a conquering elite culture shifting subject peoples.

PIE peoples are so fucking interesting and I think they'd be amazed at how much of the world speaks their languages.
