Once again, thank you for your graciousness, @wagglyplacebo.Looks like repquest was a big contributor to this thread and since he apologized for his behavior he is let back in. don't fuck it up.
A couple of days ago, Billion left YouChew, the latest departure in a recent wave of old guard members calling it quits for good. What I find odd is one of the main reasons he cited for leaving:
If anything, the Ted incident that happened in October showed that not only the moderation has become even more strict, but the community's standards of self-policing are even stricter than before. YouChew's moderation has been notoriously inconsistent and biased in favor of mods, admins, and their friends, even by the standards of most other forums. Billion was one of the people who benefited from that nepotism and could get away with things that would often get other members banned, warned, or at the very least scorned. In fact, when @InLivingTuna was banned for the first time, Billion was cited as an example of that rampant favoritism. He often got a free pass for his belligerent behavior toward other users because of his close ties with the site staff, who usually agreed with him and often took advantage of their position to do the same.Billion said:It used to be that people were usually quick to call others out here when they were misbehaving. It’s always been easy for bad behavior to go reinforced and unchecked on the internet; but people that continued to misbehave were typically dealt with before long after a number of people would call them out and they still refused to listen. While I’m not going to name names or cite specific actions, it used to be pretty easy to simply ignore since it came in mostly isolated people or cases, but on top of my first point, I no longer feel like that’s the case. Lately I feel that there are very few people willing to step up call people out on socially unacceptable behavior, and it’s just kind of become untethered and too overbearing for me to deal with, exacerbated by the fact that nobody seems interested in quelling it anymore.
