So a few hours ago the vanced developers announced that for legal reasons they have to shut down. Vanced might work for a little longer, but it'll be broken eventually. What options are there now for watching yt videos on your phone with some of the features vanced added? I think brave mobile lets you use YouTube with the screen off but you're losing PiP and sponsorblock and a bunch of other stuff vanced added. Anyone smart and not afraid of lawsuits wanna make a successor to vanced?

If pip is something like play in pop-up, that works on vanilla NewPipe, here's me in this thread with an APS video queued up.

I imagine it works in the sponsorblock fork too but I only learned about that today and haven't converted yet.

There's Newpipe (+sponsor block) or using a mobile browser that can use ublock, like Bromite or Fennec. Neither are as nice as Vanced though. Newpipe does have PiP.
I'm not optimistic about someone forking Vanced. I don't think it was open source like Newpipe, it was more like a ROM hack of the proprietary YouTube app.

The Vanced module for Magisk hasn't been updated for at least 12 months, but it still seems to work. When it finally stops working I'll probably move over to Newpipe with sponsor block.

I meant I don't know if izzysoft is endorsed by the people who run the sponsorblock fork.

I don't really mind if this is some random person/bot collecting the apks for our convenience, but one issue I've had with vanilla NewPipe is sometimes it'll just break (I guess YT updated a decryption key or something). When that happens, downloading the new version from their github tends to be faster than waiting for it to pop up on fdroid, and there are "issues" saving user data when jumping between the two versions.

I can only imagine the time delay issue would be worse with a fork in a random repository maintained by I have no idea who.

I mostly listen to Jewtube while working out. Adds used to be bearable (either 1 15 second add or 2 5 second add). Now when I open a video on the normal app I get 2 15 second adds and on occasion I've gotten 3. If youtube wasn't so pro censorship I'd actually pay for the add free experience but I couldn't support them with the Indian incharge of alphabet

Yeah I just got rid of vanced after seeing how they handled shutting this down. What a waste. What a waste of a goddamn effort. I'm going to probably stick to newpipe for music and the desktop for everything else. MPV + Yt-dlp is the only decent way now, and YouTube-DL is essentially digital Detroit.

Unless the Vanced devs decide to release the sources for the project somewhere in the ether the project is all lost. Only the MicroG part was open source and the rest was closed source, so there really is no way for someone to pick up the slack without getting the source code for Vanced or to go through an insane amount of reverse engineering the app. This fucking sucks man.
