This was a great recommendation for people that aren't autistic about tech and just wanted to scroll their feed and watch videos without ads blasting out their eardrums. Sucks to see it gone, there is no alternative for regular folks at the moment.

If the code was open source, it would be trivial for the soy golems on Google's payroll to change the Youtube app in ways that directly break Vanced efforts at reverse engineering.

NewPipe is open source, but it's basically just Youtube specific youtube-dl with a mobile GUI. There isn't even an option to keep a login cookie for your subscriptions, for example, only RSS feeds. But as long as yt-dlp works, so will NewPipe.

well i mean you can use a mobile browser that uses extensions like kiwi browser or something and you can then put adblockers and sponsorblock or whatever you want and then be fine

There's absolutely no way that googlefags didn't already know about vanced. It's been big for years even prior to Linus or any news or blog site talking about it. What went over the line was discussing making a profit at all, even in a joking sense. The nft thing was a massive mistake and I don't think we'd have seen a c&d this soon otherwise.

Vanced will still work for a while. I used to use the same version of vanced for likely over a year and it still worked, just had some hiccups. The final version of vanced has a lot of extra features like sponsorblock, annoyance ridding, etc and other than issues with refreshing the home page seems to almost be perfect. It won't be bricked for a while. Some people have said two years, idk about that long but it will be decent as long as you can upgrade MicroG, which is a separate and actually open source project.

I'm being dramatic. Vanced still technically works, and I'll probably keep using it until it's completely bricked, but video info and comments are blocked for me.
Site's being fucky so I can't upload a screenshot, but it's giving a 400 server error under the videos.

Google will probably try to screw with it, but I do believe MicroG handled more than just account integration and could fix stuff like this. If not revert versions if you don't care about sponsorblock or some of the layout changes.

Mental Outlaw plugged the Kiwi Browser. It apparently runs desktop-level extensions for Chromium. Can anyone vouch for their experience running youtube through that browser? Bromite lately has shit the bed on ad blocking and I am about to drop it like a hot potato.

If you use kiwi browser on Android you can install Chrome add-ons and get most-ish of the features youtube Vanced offered including Wesley snipes darque mode

I've been test running it since seeing that vid (mental outlaw is great), it's not vanced but it's an okay substitution. It beats what I was doing before which was just using brave and turning the screen off

Edit: here's pip mode working. Make the video full screen then hit home button. It's an extra step compared to vanced but if you install sponsor block and ad block and a dark mode, you can get 75% of the experience back when Google kills vanced with api changes. Save a shortcut to YouTube in the browser on your home screen and you can even use the vanced logo and pretend

Yep, that's just happened to me too.

Videos still play, but I now get a server error in the section where the description and comments would usually be. Not a big deal in itself, but definitely feels like a sign that it's the beginning of the end.

Think I'll install Newpipe and Sponsor Block sooner rather than later, in preparation for when YT manages to completely break Vanced.

Edit: ...aaaaand it's gone. (((YouTube))) has shoah'd Vanced. Looks like I'll need to get used to Newpipe + SponsorBlock.

Mobile and desktop Brave still blocking all YT ads, sponsorblock works well so far. Smart Tube Beta apk for android tvs.
