Obviously not, since they've never seriously tried to get rid of the mechanism by which youtube-dl operates. Pretty much everyone has a DRM module in their browser these days (including linux users) and it would be trivial for youtube to force everyone to use DRM to access videos at all. The fact that they haven't means they don't care that much. I also have a secondary theory that the way youtube-dl works is used internally at Google for their own tooling and that it's too valuable to get rid of.I wonder if YouTube actually gives a fuck about these programs or if it's a token show of force to show advertisers / corporate YouTube channels they're doing something about 'piracy'.
Linus Chink Tips is the archetypal milquetoast 'consoomer.' He's the tech equivalent of a film fan that only watches capeshit. Why is it that whenever there's tech-related faggotry in current year, it's usually Linus-related or Linus-adjacent?
from my understanding the figures for YouTube do not include advertising, since that’s under AdWords. Google will be making fucking bank off big corporate ad deals and YouTube Premium. If they weren’t they absolutely would’ve canned it by now, it’s what they do to basically any other up and coming interesting tech company they buy out. They take the patents, keep it on life support for a year or two, then kill it, and maybe release something similar but gimped later on, which they’ll then charge you for.YouTube costs Google at least several hundred million dollars a year (a 2009 Slate article claimed that $700 million is spent annually keeping the site up). The true cost is probably now in the billions due to the thousands of videos being uploaded per day, even though the cost of storage has gone down due to availability. We can assume a relatively small portion is made back due to the heavy advertising present on the site and from the user data sold to advertisers.
Vanced probably ate into a small chunk into the revenue YouTube got, and YouTube thought it was negligible, Once Vanced got too big (I think they widely advertised themselves to the public right before they got targeted by YouTube's lawyers), YouTube started to notice and killed it.
The ReVanced (a) team has been working on it for a while now. I recently installed the ReVanced Manager (a) on a rooted device and everything worked well (not sure how well it works on unrooted). It downloads the YT application to your device and then patches the apk according to which patches you select in the menu. The manager also has patches for a few other programs. Is there any team trying to continue Vanced's work that would be in a country that would just give no shit if Google tried to say no?
at least we have revanced right?Vance is officially kill:

I've been using it for a while and it works just fine. Though I did update it today from a version 17 to the latest 18 and had some trouble. I'm not using their manager, but the revanced apk. For whatever reason, it won't install a new version over the old. You have to uninstall the old first and then install the new. I also had the same problem with updating microg though that may have been because I still had the microg version installed through the Vanced Manager. Uninstalled that (and then uninstalled Vanced Manager since it's dead anyway), then was able to install the new microg version.at least we have revanced right?
right?
Its still working for me, it gets more buggy every passing month however. Could depend on what version you had before they pulled the plugVance is officially kill:

Mine still blocks video ads but the experimental features like in-line ad blocking have eroded. Sponsorblock also still works. Its still working for me, it gets more buggy every passing month however. Could depend on what version you had before they pulled the plug
What the fuck is this? The actual official link is https://github.com/revanced, or https://revanced.app which redirects you to the GitHub repo.
As I've said, go to https://github.com/revanced for the actual official link.Thank you
Yeah and if you don't use an adblocker and link the very first result for OBS you're gonna be sharing malware. Good job. That was the first link to ReVanced I was ever shown (lazy excuse, I know), but, noted. Will properly follow the repo from now on.
Call me retarded but I'm not seeing where to download the apk on github. What the fuck is this? The actual official link is https://github.com/revanced, or https://revanced.app which redirects you to the GitHub repo.
