Is that really anything new? You could always run ads for your youtube channel on the site if you paid them, just like anyone else could pay them to run ads.

Unless I'm mistaken I'm pretty sure this is only them advertising a service they already had, or maybe they've simply officially recognized it as its own thing separate from standard adsense. Either way, I think this was always an option.

Youtubers are a desperate bunch, when they're begging for subs doesn't work, nor their forced shilling of sponsers every 5 minutes doesn't work. or demanding you go to their other social media accounts, they'll now pay to force you to watch their shitty content to feed their ego and bank account.

Hasn't Youtube been losing money all this time? It's good news to hear that it's going to shit, maybe then it'll be less of a monopoly on all video content. The day Youtube dies will be a welcome one.

Dave Jones ran an experiment on one of his videos. He spent $75 (the minimum spend) and estimates he made $71 back.

He ended up getting about 240k "recommended for you" impressions for his $75, with around 2.5% clickthru rate. Not great, but it could be worse. Oh wait, it is... he usually gets a clickthru rate of between 3.5%-4.5% for videos organically recommended by The Algorithm.

By the end of this week, I expect Linus to release a video explaining why paying to promote YT videos is a good thing.

Yeah it seems they're really deadset on maximising revenue and preventing adblock, I use AdNauseam and I've noticed today that I've started to get midroll ads again but so far it's just audio with no visuals.

Same for uBlock Origin, but a forced update to blocklists seems to have fixed it... for now.

Youtube has NEVER made money for Google. It only made profit indirectly and even then barely. And when it looked like it might break even shit like the AdPocalypse and Susan's retarded crusade to suck mainstream media dick and promote globalism by artificially fiddling with the algorithm to promote "trustworthy" sources came to make sure it didn't happen.

I guess Google is really trying to go all-out whenever Manifest V3 launches to break ad-blocking. I don't think the CEOs thought "ad burnout" was going to be a thing among the general populace that would drive them to adopt ad-blocking software in the first place.

Still, it's pretty pathetic to beg creators for their money, after throttling said creators' views by algorithm changes.

- don't upload to YT, especially expecting money
- use Revanced to pirate EVERYTHING on mobile
- use adblocking/sponsor blocking to remove ads on desktop
Do NOT give large corporations a single penny if you can help it!
No exceptions
One more:
- Use alternative frontends like Piped or Invidious

They don't hit the API YouTube uses to track views so it doesn't count as a view if you use that.
