YouTubers you hate that everyone else likes

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I'm baffled on how many people I see here simp for vtubers, like many of you guys would be featured on a thread calling you Coombrains, If you simped off the site. Hololive like what many said is just a soulless corporate ploy to make money off of simps, when they realize people like watching high squeaking anime avatars.

I recall first seeing that sort of thing and thought "Oh hey, this is kind of a cute gimmick." With Korone and that one pink ribbon haired girl. It was certainly different from what I've seen at the time.

Then suddenly I started seeing it fucking everywhere and realized, "Oh shit, they're preying off of all the lonely weebs and social rejects forced into lockdown." The whole craze could not have started at a better/worse time.

Twitch thots did it first, so it's not like this is anything new.

True, but at least they were throwing away their money over real women. V-Tubers are most likely dudes with voice changers.
Lol reminds me of this.

That aside, I used to like them actually.
Naturally, I'm a weeb (my pfp is that of a weeb) so I was inclined to like them.

But my god there are so fucking many of them. It's legit oversaturated and they all blend into each other. It feels like fucking everyone is ready to throw money to get their own cat/fox/wolf/quirky whatever 3D model.

So that, added with the sameness of it all, all the overt queerbait for extra cash and the very high-pitched voices. I also got really tired of the "uwu lewd-desu" humor that a lot of them, especially those on the Western front employed.

Honestly, I've pretty much stopped caring about YouTubers now. There were some that I used to enjoy watching, but now it's just.... eh.
  • I liked Scott The Woz for a little while, but I just ended up growing bored of his videos. Nothing personal against him, though.
  • LGR in general is alright, too, but I just got bored of the same-y content as well.
  • SomeOrdinaryGamers made some pretty good videos on more niche or technical topics that I liked, but I just cannot get behind all the general drama/news videos he does. Especially the ones where he's clearly just regurgitating topics that Cr1t1kal or Modern Vintage Gamer have covered. Huge shame, really.
  • I used to watch Vinesauce a lot when I was a teenager, but I think I just grew out of brand of humor. The Vinny drama from last year also really sucked.
  • Same deal with AVGN, although the newer videos are noticeably way worse than the older ones. However, even watching the older ones is whatever for me.
  • Jackfilms used to make more diverse and funnier content, but all the YIAYs just got super boring. He's definitely starting to teeter on towards lolcow-dom, too, especially after his meltdown about people shittalking about Erin's weight, and also the "Why I Hate Jacksfilms" video where he passive aggressively responded to criticism.
  • Davie504 used to make decent videos about playing bass; was just him shutting the fuck up and playing. Ever since he started talking with his grating and monotone voice, vomiting out the same phrases and memes over and over again, he's become unwatchable for me.
  • I used to enjoy I Hate Everything's silly rant videos, but ever since he basically became a film critic, I've stopped watching. Watching his old videos, though, they weren't anything great, either.

On the topic of YouTubers that are popular, but I can't fathom why people enjoy them...
  • PewDiePie used to make shitty let's plays and then later on started making shitty Reddit videos. Why is he the most subscribed to individual on the site?
  • MoistCr1t1kal is just boring, his videos are grating and his livestreams are bottom of the barrel tier shit.
  • Dhar Mann, pretentious fuck who makes "inspirational" videos with unrealistic plots. Titles are pretty lulzy, though.
  • Linus Tech Tips, also really annoying and just uncomfortable to watch. Anthony is the only person in the group that I can stand.
  • VTubers, particularly Hololive, are clearly just corporate puppets for their simp consoomer fanbase to sink money and attention into, all while being extremely uninteresting and/or annoying to watch.
  • Mr. Beast used to make videos making fun of kids' shitty video intros, but all of a sudden, he's now a super rich guy who does all these clickbait-y giveaways and challenges??
  • SSSniperWolf just makes shitty reaction videos, and yet YouTube loves to push her onto the front page for some reason.

At this point, I'm satisfied with just watching whatever random videos get recommended to me that pertain to my interests. Actively avoiding Twitter also helps.
The Vinny drama was proven to be complete bullshit, Vinny did literally nothing wrong

There is also the fact that there are other offshoot youtubers using Vtuber models to pass as one having an avatar. If its not a cartoon avatar, its a 3D-anime avatar, in addition of these youtubers coming from really awful fanbases (perfect examples are Ceia and Quite Shallow of the GFL and Warframe fanbases respectively).

I'm glad I would rather continue modding my L4D2 than stay watching Vtubers like the current state of the internet.

Yeah, I know, but the whole thing was still sucky to see happen and how that affected him at the time. I am glad to see that he did bounce back some, but like I said, though, I think I just kinda grew out of his brand of humor. His newer streams and prerecorded videos haven't really been doing much for me, but if the current way he's doing things is actually helping him mentally, then I don't think I can really fault him for it.

I find Gigguk/Garnt and The Anime Man/Joey to be hypocritical hacks who found a niche within the casual anime circle, and yet both have made comments or said things about anime that shows they don't understand the wider culture of it all.

Also speaking of them, I know this isn't the "Youtubers you like that everyone else seems to hate" thread, I have no issue with their podcast co-host Connor/CDawgVA. He's kind of a weenie but in a way that is kind of wholesome and nice.

I haven't really been able to get back into Vinesauce since that stuff. Vinnys stuff without a chat to interact with isn't the same and he just seems to have really changed somehow after the drama.

As for the topic, it's mostly shit my roomates watch:
  • Good Mythical Morning is boring as fuck and the hosts just ooze "LA Hipster".
  • Binging With Babbish, as someone said, is listening to a guy who let the "Ur voice is sooo relaxing!!1!" Comments go straight to his head and can't stop huffing his own farts now.
  • CDawgVA and the Trash Taste crew. A bunch of really pretentious trust-fund kids throwing money around Japan and larping as anime insiders or some shit.
  • HoloLive is literal corporate garbage with no redeeming qualities. A bunch of screeching attention whores pretending to be lolis.
  • TheSpiffingBrit is obnoxious. His shtick is that he exploits games and acts british while spamming the same stock photos in all of his videos. That's it. And like MattPat, he doesn't find the exploits on his own. He has a team that finds them and basically does all his work.
There are probably more, but those are the ones that stood out to me lately.

You can definitely tell that recent years have made their content really stale. They really don't give much of a shit anymore.

Speaking of popular people, I already mentioned Simon Whistler, Slope's Game Room but I'm gonna mention the third one and say FoundFlix.

Dude should really just change the channel name to Movie Summarized because that's the entirety of his channel; just taking horror/thriller movies, running through them as if he's reading a Wikipedia plot summary and giving his half-assed analysis at the end of each video. It is the most surface-level round-up of observations without any depth or nuance.

If you are really unlucky, you get to see him do a comedy skit based on the movie that he's talking about like he did with Paranormal Activity and Hereditary.

He also has a really annoying voice that makes him sound insincere, which makes it hard to take every word he says seriously.

Ew really? And here I thought he was just a trend-chasing Simon Whistler clone (you know, that bald guy with the glasses from all those biographic, geographic, "neat" little fact channels)

Speaking of Simon Whistler, holy crap, I'm fucking sick of seeing his face all plastered over Youtube just because I watch a few documentaries.

He also reminded me of why I have a hard time liking true crime YouTubers. Sorry but I don't wanna listen to some faggot talk about meme culture or whatever over a story about some guy who killed 20 people.

Also, his Biographics channel has some piss poor editing, which he never bothered to fix.

This video is a prime example of that. The audio just cuts out randomly.
I made a thread on him a while back. He's basically part of a content farm that churns out low quality clickbait for Redditfags.

There's an interesting facts channel run by a gay but based Canadian named J.J. McCullough who did a critique of Simon's trash content, and it was met with some dislikes:

I wish someone would do a real thorough takedown expose of this bald fuck. Instead, those drama channels have tunnel vision by only focusing on calling out channels no one gives a shit about like SkyDoesMinecraft or Bashurverse or some shit. I'd really like to see someone dig into Today I Found Out and its sister channels to shed light on exactly what the fuck these are all about and why do they keep appearing in my recommended thumbnails.

AthleanX.

I suppose “hatred” is the wrong word. The kernels of good advice and fair approach to beginners shouldn’t be ignored. Hell, I learned how to not injure myself while working out because of his earlier vids. Props for that.
Kind of a powerlevel here, but a few years ago I had a pretty bad back injury and my insurance didn't cover physical therapy (long story), so I turned to YouTube to learn home exercises. The first recommended video was AthleanX and in the thumbnail it showed him doing an isolated back exercises specifically for my problem at the time, with a clickbait thumbnail that was like, "Do NOT do this!". I sat through it and it was just him rambling a bunch of word salad about back exercises, but didn't actually describe what to do regarding my problem.

I'm like, "Uh, thanks, I guess?"

He is easily the most clickbaitey fitness channel out there, and should 100% be shutdown. God help any teenager or novice lifter who listens to his advice and gets injured.

That's the point of the channel, really. You'll see plenty of comments in the comment section along the lines of "I love watching FoundFlix summarize movies I'll never watch anyways."
I can at least give him credit in that he seems to know he's just a story summary channel. There's a lot of channels like Salt Factory who do the same thing but for video games but actually call their videos shit like "Game: a retrospective" or "An analysis of Game."

Also, on Simon Whistler. I don't really care about most of his channels but he does a true crime one and I'd say the appeal is that he's the rare example of a true crime show who actually pays someone to do research AND doesn't put on an obnoxious voice. It seems like he gives them free rein to write about what they want and a lot of them are from foreign places so he has guys who can actually read the primary documents for crimes in China and the like.
