Ys X

Ys III was overwritten by the remake Oath in Felghana, and IV's original games were overwritten by Memories of Celceta (which erased the settling-down-with-Lilia thing @Captain Manning mentioned, she had what was obviously Adol's child).
They actually replaced the awesome PCE version developed by Hudson Soft (that had the ending with Lilia having Adol's kids) with the far crappier Super Famicom version developed by Tonkin House, and then replaced that with Memories of Celceta that they developed in-house.

I get Hudson Soft went off the reservation with their version, but damn it, I liked that version. They're dead set on him freezing to death in the North Pole.

It's gonna take forever, basically.
Well, they gotta milk it...

What's so bad about Ys 9? I haven't played it.
9 has a really bizarre plot that's hard to get into if you like traditional adventure stories, something about someone making a living action figure out of Adol or some crazy shit like that, the narrative gets really confusing when ever it switches back and fourth between the mini Adol and the real Adol without telling you what's going on and the game also tells parts of the story out of order without telling you, it's all just a big mess

X definitely plays differently from VIII. There is a much bigger focus on guarding over dodging, which takes some time to get used to.

The optimization complaints must be coming from the native PS4 version, because as far as I can tell, every other version runs better than VIII or IX.

I was just about to post that.

Yeah, he's supposed to die at age 63 while trying to reach the North Pole. That was established way back in the 80s when Falcom first created the character, and they've apparently stuck to it.

It would be hella depressing. I always thought he should have settled just down with Lilia.
they really should have had a new main character in the newer games or overhaul the design. The eye soaring all-red MC is kind of the main thing keeping me from playing the newer ones. They should have made more games like YS Origins.
