Dogs take more care than most outdoor cats, however Chris can not really take care of anything that is totally not self reliant.

That is why the hoard has the perfect pets for him:

I just spent the last 25 minutes of my life watching a mentally challenged transgender man stare straight into the sun while wearing a unicorn horn and mumbling inane phrases. Who is the real autist?
 
You know neighbors were probably out looking at the sun too... instead they were forced to watch a middle aged manbaby stare at the sun in his unicorn outfit.

Once in a lifetime event indeed.

I should never be surprised by CWC, but it keeps happening... the fact that he really is wearing that stupid horn everywhere (church, here) is really amazing.

It doesn't look like night there, though. At all.

Pets do not need eclipse glasses in Virginia, which is not close to totality. The people peddling this stuff are the same ones that think you should send your pets to therapists when they look mopey. Unless you're in near totality there is 0% chance that an animal is going to decide to look at the sun anymore than they do when a tiny cloud passes over. When you look up at the sun, it hurts, and you stop (unless you're an idiot human forcing yourself to do it because you saw on the news that an eclipse is coming). If you look up during a partial eclipse without glasses you don't see the eclipse, you'll just see a blinding bright light that is indistinguishable to eyes from the regular blinding bright light. As a role model, I fully endorse trying this out.

A cat that doesn't look at the sun normally wouldn't have done so today either because the sun didn't look any different to un-shielded eyes... unless you were in the darkness zone.
