There are a lot of people in math and science in my family. When I was younger, I could add numbers really fast, but had trouble talking to people and was in special ed for a while.
I don't agree with everything that this forum does, but I will take it over the SJWs
incessantly claiming that I am an "overprivileged" white male geek. Somehow, until recently, I think
Encyclopedia Dramatica gives a more accurate portrayal of Asperger's than Wikipedia. This is surprising because Wikipedia is supposed to be more reliable! When I first learned about CWC I felt that I could relate to him more than any of those autism supremacists that talk normally and can function 100%, as terrible as it sounds. Fortunately, I fixed Wikipedia in this regard.
Unfortunately, there is this media myth that I resembled a typical scientist/engineer. You never hear though about how it is hard work and very complex and broad (not narrow and restricted). So when I started high school (which was basically a socialist/communist one), I had trouble being able to stay organized in the face of more complex material. So despite the fact that I was stimming in public and blurting out random things, I was humiliated a lot for not living up to my "expectations" as a smart person, especially in class. This was by teachers and my parents, who put a lot of emphasis on education. Somehow, I was never referred to the help I needed until relatively recently. A lot of SJWs would go on about how weird they were, but then insult me for being weird, contradicting themselves.
As for all those people claiming that Einstein was autistic, they actually claim that Einstein had
"autistic traits", which isn't the same thing. Furthermore, the person writing this goes on to say “This condition can make people depressed or suicidal, so if we can find out how to make things easier for them, that’s worthwhile.” But I never heard that Einstein was depressed or suicidal. By contrast, professor Fred Volkmar at Yale says
''The trouble for many of our folks is they just engage in an endless acquisition of facts, without doing anything productive,'' which is not what scientists and engineers do.
Neurodiversity didn't even exist 20 years ago but the effects of neurodiversity have been detrimental. At the local autism support group where I live, one of the employees claims to be autistic, but can talk and move normally, and said she was never in special ed. She lied to me and said that there were many autistics in silicon valley, but then later said that autistics make less money than is expected. So she's basically saying that being autistic is more important than one's career prospects. She really hates pro-cure discussions (probably because she makes a living off autism). At the autism awareness group on the college campus next to me,
talking about cures is
not allowed. I would be surprised if any of the board members would date an autistic person, so most likely, they just don't want to get sued by a "neurodiversity" advocate.
