Zenless Zone Zero

What exactly is gacha anyway?
It's based off "Gashapon" which were basically gumball machines but had various different kinds of stickers/toys/collectibles so you never knew what you were going to get, that got translated into the modern age as gacha games in which you roll for one of various different kinds of gameplay units, skins, weapons, etc

I'd like to give it a try but their chinky spyware rootkit has traditionally been fussy with Linux compatibility. years ago when I tried to play Genshit, it was only sporadically playable and often required workarounds that risked an account ban. the game itself played fine, naturally, it was just their stupid anti-cheat that wouldn't cooperate. Honkai is basically perma-borked. people are saying ZZZ is playable out of the box right now, but I don't trust that won't change. MiHoyo is actively hostile towards Linux so it's likely that any work I put into the game will be completely undone at some point. live service games, y'all.

You will never be a real game. You have no save states, you have no offline mode, you have no modability. You are a live-service game twisted by transsexuals and suits into a crude mockery of gamers' perfection.

All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back players mock you. Your devs are disgusted and ashamed of you, your playtesters laugh at your ghoulish appearance behind closed doors.

Gamers are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of gameplay have allowed gamers to sniff out scams with incredible efficiency. Even live-service games who “pass” look uncanny and unnatural to a gamer. Your account sign-in is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a drunk gamer home with you, he’ll turn tail and bolt the second he gets a whiff of your always-online, microtransactions cash shop.

You will never be satisfied. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the end-of-service creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll shut down, write an announcement, put it around your neck, and kill the servers. Your devs will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to pay the servers for another money laundering scheme. They’ll bury you with a name on Wikipedia marked with your IP, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a live-service game is shut down. Your servers will be replaced and will go back to byte data, and all that will remain of your legacy is the leftover data in a hard drive before deletion.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

It's hinted to be eventually released on the Switch successor according to the producer
Zenless Zone Zero, the latest game from Genshin Impact developer miHoYo, could be a possibility for Switch 2.
Producer Zhenyu Li addressed the possibility in this week’s issue of Famitsu. He left the door open to Switch 2 support, and also noted that he’s personally a Nintendo fan.

Nintendo Everything’s full translation of Li’s comments regarding potential Switch 2 support are as follows:
“Currently our highest priority is increasing the quality regarding the platforms that we plan to work with. As we continue the development process, we think we will find the possibilities for this. Of course, there is an assumption it will be made into an excellent experience, and as a personal fan of Nintendo I will be very happy to see that become a reality.”

The great irony is that even if you get gacha less versions of the games it would suck even harder since a lot of the appeal in gacha is being gatelocked for new content in early game and searching for the high of big numbers in late game. Playing with max upgraded characters is the most boring way to play.

There are offline Switch ports of Japanese mobile games that remove all the micro-transactions involving real money but keep the gacha system in itself.
For example, Battle Cats Unite (Futari de! Nyanko Daisensou) has multiple banners that let you roll for different units but if you're ever unsatisfied with your rolls, you can immediately hit the Home button, reboot the game and then regain your previously spent currency (which is generated through achievements, mini-games and over a certain timetable).

Metal Slug Attack Reloaded is another example but I haven't played that one yet so I can't say much, but I assume it works in similar fashion to the Battle Cats port.

It could be interesting, the best thing in gacha is when you get into a "me and my guys" team that you are attached to, and when you start having too many characters and just minmax that charm goes away

I've hit IL 32 and have been pleasantly surprised that the game is starting to punish blindly mashing buttons instead of doing characters actual combos. The downside is now I'm stuck in farming and grinding level and skill materials while tossing some materials into the disc shop to top up their damage a bit.

As for the story: I'm so happy it's "famous hacker who had to throw their legendary account away and start over while making ends meet" instead of "Mysterious special person must collect all the elements to find the mcguffin"

Belebog's story made me tear up at the end of it and I've had fun exploring and doing the checklist the police mascot gives you.

Did lose my 50/50 on the shark girl, which makes me a little sad since I have the Furrybait ice character and would have a completely awesome ice team. Hopefully I get early pity. Not done any spending yet, though I usually get one battlepass and one daily and see how I feel in a month. So far I've enjoyed it a lot more than I did with my month of Wuwa

You and me both brother. I actually kinda like the Wolf guys design, even if it's plain, at least Hoyo tried to do something different and outside of their comfort zone going full anthro.

I will say he's having a little Zhongli effect, since you get a huge I-frame window when you hold his skill button down. Not me ignoring all mechanics because I'm lazy, surely it will not punish me later.

I like Corin with him though still trying for Ellen, I'm trying to collect the whole maid faction because they are snazzy, I even got Rina somehow, so let's hope. :)

I actually like the siblings quite a lot, though I really have nfi how old they are meant to be, if I had to guess early to mid 20s but it's so hard to tell protag ages in Asian games.

There's feet in the first minute of the advert, guys I think this game may be targeting a particular audience.

Normally I’m not one for gacha but I need an excuse to play on my PlayStation now a days and I’ll be honest it has been a fun couple hours.
Got some good pulls with all the free currency and level up rewards got the blue demon girl and the cat girl it’s been a good combo so far.

Last year, Megaman XDive also turns into a normal single player game. But Capcom doesn't care enough to make console ports beside phones and PC.

Is it an actual I-frame or interrupt resistance? Sousaku also has the latter with her special attack and its EX version. And Zhongli also only has interrupt resistance built in when casting his shield. He still takes damage during casting animation. Anyway, Lycaon is pretty strong even for 5* standard banner, having elemental resistant reduction baked in his kit is too good.

Any form of interrupt resistance are always welcome, which for now I find defense characters being somewhat underrated with the shield they provide to whole team. For Ben, it isn't just shield, other party members gain Crit Rate when shield is up. This is amusingly enough for Disc Drive set farming, both the Crit Rate set and Def bonus set are in the same Routine Cleaning mission.

You literally face tank a bosses ability with out taking damage while the skill is being held. That is an I-frame to me, unless I and wrong about what the I stands for.

Ah okay, it's EX version of his special attack.

Edit: I'm being dumb, right now most characters have invulnerability with EX special attack. Sousaku, Corin and Anton don't have that. Sousaku and Corin at most have 40% damage reduction and IR. Anton only has IR.

PONOS deserves recognition for doing this. It shows you CAN create a gacha game without the need to be either always online, requiring real-life money or having some other arbitrary TOS bullshit. The main phone game does have all the three issues I mentioned but if they can create an offline version of their game on the Switch, then other companies can do so too. Which shouldn't be hard since they have a LOT of resources. They just choose not to and are just scummy in general.
