Zenless Zone Zero

All of my luck went to the Bangboo banner.

I guess my question some time after release is, what make ZZZ different than Genshin to justify playing it? I like the looks but Genshin just became a chore after a year of playing, with pretty bad powercreep and absolutely horrific grind.

It's more like Honkai Impact 3rd (not Star Rail) than Genshin Impact. If you have experience with that, it's kinda similar.

I've been playing it for a while & there'll surely come a point where it will legitimately become a chore. But for now it's fine, it's too new to judge midgame routine, let alone endgame stuff.

TL, DR: ZZZ is much less intensive, hassle and not time gated comparing to Genshin.
Genshin pic is on the left, ZZZ is on the right

1) Character ascension to ZZZ character promotion. Aka, increasing level cap for characters.
Character ascension.png ZZZ ascension.png
Red is where you have to farm from World bosses for their unique drops. Old Genshin you have to wait 2 - 3 minutes for world boss respawning. Current Genshin, world boss has 10 sec respawn.
Green is where you have to go killing limited random mobs in open world with 1-day respawning time, also at mercy depending if these mob types are close by each other to farm. Then also locale specialty with (68/60 thingy in pic) with 3-day respawning time.
Pink is only asking you to go farm a domain. Domain isn't time gated only asking for stamina points, same as Red also asking for stamina points.

2) Character talents, active skill and core (passive skill).
Character talents.png Character active ability.png Character core skill.png

Genshin character talent books, go farm a specific domain that only appears on certain day, usual every 3-day period or on Sunday. Meanwhile for ZZZ, you can farm them on any days you want.
Green is the same random mobs drop have to farm in open world.
Red is the unique mini boss drop, ZZZ is an instance based game, so there isn't no waiting time for boss respawning.
Yellow is from weekly boss drop, except ZZZ doesn't cost any stamina points to get rewards. But players can only do it 3 times per week, Genshin can do as many as they want. 30 stamina points for first three, and 60 stamina the rest of the week.

3) Weapons
Fav lance.png W-engine modification.png
Pink is domain farm. Genshin has restriction on specific day of the week or Sunday. ZZZ, any day players want to farm.
Green is the same old go farming open world mobs.

5) ZZZ has higher stamina cap (240) than Genshin (200) and also faster regen rate, 1 stamina per 6 minutes comparing to 1 stamina per 8 minutes. ZZZ has daily coffee refill, 60. So more like a total of 300 stamina daily.

Genshin max level for both characters and weapons are level 90. ZZZ max level is only 60. Genshin requires 4 characters in a team, ZZZ only needs 3. Genshin can take 2-3 weeks to fully kitted a character, ZZZ at most a few days to a week. Depending whether players have premium battle pass to skip farming money and some leveling up materials between levels.
Although, in Genshin they tries to make world mobs and locale specialty more condensed and more in quantity in later region. So I'd say Genshin probably takes like 2 weeks for newer characters now.
Also ZZZ farming is more centralized in two places/hubs, you don't have to spend time teleporting around too much and more time running around.

Thanks for the info, the two things that I especially wonder are:
1. Is there the same issue with relic farming where not only you waste a ton of resources RNG farming and upgrading only to get fucked by shitty stat spread?
2. Is getting characters without paying (an absolutely insane amount) still requires way too much time wasting?

1) It's still there, if you find this already dreadful then it's a no go.
But ZZZ has an item (one time used Tuning Calibrator at level 45 of free BP) can give guaranteed main stat. It's still rng crap overall, but the whole min-maxing matters if you care perfecting the optional hardest challenge. Which is like 5% of playerbase bother to do.
By that I mean Hoyo knows majority of their player base is casual, so they will make story, limited time events and other normal daily, weekly contents brain dead easy or moderately slow grind at most to not gate keep everyone.
Fully perfect the optional hard content in Hoyo games give you not even a total of 10 rolls/wishes. I don't think anyone should feel too bad about themselves. Unless them being whales or nerds are willing to refresh stamina with premium currency.

2) It's Hoyo, so premium currency you get is stingy.
Assumingly fully F2P and no big events (anniversary and Lunar New Year), then a Genshin player can get like 60 ish wishes in total. Meanwhile Honkai Star Rail is more generous, 90ish. They guarantee for S rank character in a banner is still in 80-90 rolls. Having a "monthly sub" of $15 gives additional 30 rolls and some more resource (more stamina can be spent elsewhere for preference).
Game isn't open world, player shouldn't spend more time exploring nook and cranny to find additional tiny bit of p.currency like Genshin chests. But idk, for whatever reasons, few people on here are very lucky with their rolls.

Edit: not to double posting. Furry vtuber clip has been there a few days, but it's the second one (today at this edit) that I decide to post both.
Irl images of furry vtuber.

Okay started it yesterday, a bit bummed out I didn't start early but that's part of Gacha. So far enjoying the combat and animations, and the plot seems a lot more manageable so far. Unlike Genshin it seems that player skill is more of a factor, though I doubt there won't be enemies that are pure DPS check.

Decided to give up on Shark Girl banner, primarily because I got Anton already and I don't want to live with the idea that I need a furry for a good team comp. I was lucky enough to pull for Grace, so my team is currently her, Anby and Lucy. I have no idea if they are good, but god they are fun to play. Is there a reason to play multiple elements or it's better to make a single element party?

Combat zones will have enemies weak to specific elements, so it's in your best interest to have multiple elements. That said, your teams get bonuses both from sharing elements and belonging to the same faction (my current "main" is Von Lycaon, Soukaku, and Corin, which still gets me the full synergy bonus despite the fact I only have two ice characters and two Victoria characters in the team). Since you're starting out, focus on building one team, then you can use that team to build your other teams.

I take back even joking about this
Not sure if this will change your point of view, think of it as a grinding similar to Diablo games, and accept the limited stamina as how CCP would prefer people not to play video games too much. Having correct main stat for the drive disk slot is enough of a big jump.
If you are that worry about bad sub stat and resource wasting, don't fully upgrade all the way, test your luck with first and second sub stat upgrades.

Probably putting Nicole in there instead of Lucy so you'll get maximum bonus. Since Anby and Nicole in the same faction, Nicole has defense shred with her assist swap black hole or her EX skill, Lucy needs at least Cinema 2 (2 dupes) for more consistent damage buff.
Check keybind option for swapping to previous character, not just swapping to next. That keybind also applies for parry or dodge assist.

UI combat for element anomaly is a bit misleading, tiny circle next to enemy health bar. When you attack with enemy with a different element, original anomaly build up is still there, it won't be override or reset. You don't have to worry about whatever physical attack in attack string or Nicole ether anomaly disrupting Grace and Anby electric building up.
A kinda short video on element anomaly thing.

There'll be some higher level enemies having shield requires player to have appropriate element to deplete shield before being able to do health damage. Or just fully stun-daze them, shield will be gone. Game won't punish players if not having appropriate element that much, unless enemies actually have resistance against it. Damage colour will be grey instead of whatever element colour.
Having correct element just means you can even stun enemies a bit beside DOT damage when fully build up anomaly gauge, not having to rely on daze.

Edit: Losing 50/50 on Zhu Yuan banner on like 76 pity, but I have Koleda so it isn't as bad for my Soldier 11 fire team.
Ben gets C4, Piper C2, Nicole C3 and Lucy signature weapon. Overall, relatively satisfy with what I have.

Not feeling it for the new banner, gunkata is a bit overused by now, I'll wait for the next banner. So far it's fun, waiting for the weekend to really bite into the game. Also can you change the assured S rank agent? I want Soldier 11 after her adorable episode.

I think it's like HSR, where you choose once you get the 300 pulls?

I lost my 50/50 to Rina. I, sadly, need the furry for my Ellen team.

Couldn't pull Ellen and my will to play has plummeted, she had by far the most fun kit from the characters I tried, plus a fun design and personality.

Currently fielding a team of Lycaeon, Corin and Soukaku. A lot of bouncing back between the former two for stun/damage, while keeping attack buff up on both with the latter. It does a pretty good job.

Game is easy but the atmosphere feels really chill. I like the hub world, owning a video store is the coziest shit, and God Finger arcade is a based G Gundam reference.

God damn the gacha RNG fucks me sideways. Have got Corin 4 times, on the standard banner got Grace as a pity for a second time rather than a new character and every A rank weapon I got is either Attack or Defence, both I don't use right now. I'm close to rage quitting since it's just getting repetitive and the grind for pulls is glacial.

>Wanted to quit
>Got Grace on 40th pull
(can you choose your units for the 40th confirmed pull?, I'll be seething for not getting Lykaon, if true).
>Still wanted to quit
>Got another Grace on Ellen's banner
(works great with Anton).
>Had enough for another pull
>Get Ellen
>Game is getting repetitive & boring.
>Play enough to finally get to 30 to unlock events. But now I need to go through fuck ton of quests (which I still haven't completed yet).
>Suddenly love the ice duo
(I got a C3 Soukaku too. Also, apparently I forgot skill upgrades are a thing until the challenge battle with that Dog looking thing).
>Want to give-up & quit game
>Didn't get cop girl with the saved pulls... Until I suddenly did
(I got some Polychrome later from the codes).
>Hate going through the main commision (story) & want to quit the game (it's way more work than Genshin & even HSR.

I think... I might be stealing your luck here. I'm lucky, somewhat liking it, & I still wanna delete this game after I unlock & complete the temporary events.

The game gets a 10/10 from me for excellent design, really giving me TWEWY vibe (ignoring the shit sequel). But the main story is just so fucking bland right now and I can't see how the game proceeds from this point since unlike Genshin it's way more limited in retarded meta gaming and there is no downtime between fights. I kind of expect it will get a big drop in few months and then the question will be if the game will be killed or not. It doesn't help that it will probably be hit hard with power creep since people are saying it's too easy.

Pulled Grace off the new banner at 30 pulls, but it will be forever and a day before I farm enough resources to build her. (Since I managed to pull cop girl with like 2 hours left on her banner)

I've just accepted I'm doomed to pretty much only get A-ranks for the next few months. Somehow got Ellen at the end of her banner and lost the 50/50 to Grace
